Summary of the role:
We are seeking a Senior Underwriter who will be responsible for appraising and selecting risks that are acceptable to assigned insurance programs. Underwrite policies for assigned area of coverage.
What would be your day in the life at Builders?
Reviewing new applications and loss information to evaluate a risk and determine eligibility for the program
Following all underwriting guidelines that have been provided by assigned programs
Taking authority levels into consideration on each risk reviewed
Applying NCCI rules and regulations when evaluating and binding each risk
Assuring adequate pricing of individual risks and recommend any changes that will be beneficial to the company in underwriting policies and procedures
Preparing quotations for the agents
Entering revised quotes into the computer system
Receiving customer service related telephone calls from agents, members and prospects and answer questions and handle problems within the scope of their technical knowledge
Reviewing renewals each month for pricing or non-renewal based on prior experience
Using technical knowledge for changes to be made to accounts that have been reviewed by the Audit Specialists and given to underwriting for evaluation
Working with other departments to service accounts and minimize losses
Overseeing work flow, give direction, and assist with department staff training
What skills will you need?
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent experience in insurance or related field
4+ years insurance experience required in Underwriting
Multi-line experience with strong underwriting experience in workers’ compensation, general liability, and builders’ risk insurance preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present reports and recommendations to all levels within the organization and to outside stakeholders
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Ability to multi-task and focus on detail
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
