Pottery Barn San Francisco, CA

Job Description

Senior Production Artist, Brand Packaging

About The Brand Packaging Team

The Pottery Barn brand packaging team is a well-tenured team dedicated to creating flawless and elevated product packaging. As the Senior Production Artist, you will play a critical role in delivering production-ready artwork that adheres to our high standards of brand consistency across all product categories. We are seeking an individual with outstanding technical skills and a meticulous eye for detail, capable of excelling in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.

Role Overview

Pottery Barn is seeking a Senior Production Artist, bringing 8 to 10 years of hands-on packaging production experience, preferably in a high-volume corporate retail environment. This role balances independent initiative with teamwork, collaborating effectively with the Project Management and Packaging Design teams. You will be tasked with executing consumer-facing packaging across a wide variety of home furnishings categories. Your primary responsibilities include crafting technically precise artwork on digital dielines and creating, as well as maintaining, an array of digital templates crucial for production. While design tasks are minimal, your passion for meticulous production work and proactive project management will be key to your success.

This is a hybrid role - 4 days/week onsite in our SF office required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years' experience in packaging production, preferably in a corporate setting.
  • Advanced proficiency in macOS, Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop), and MS Office. Knowledge of Asana and FileMaker is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, with robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent self-starter with excellent time management skills and the flexibility to adapt to changes.
  • BA/BS degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be available to work on-site in our San Francisco office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert-level skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop applications, particularly in creating complex graphics and preparing files for print.
  • A strong background in production design or substantial practical experience with a focus on typography and visual communication.
  • Adept at conveying new technical information about Photoshop and Illustrator to our design team.
  • Proven experience in managing the complete lifecycle of packaging projects, from concept through production, using style guides, templates, and direct feedback from design teams.
  • Experience leading packaging workflows, including artwork creation, proofing, submission, and securing blue line approval.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough assessments of vendor-provided dielines before artwork creation.
  • Ability to produce precise mock-ups for executive reviews.
  • A strong collaborator who can also guide less experienced designers in maintaining and elevating brand standards.
  • Adept at managing and updating brand standards guides to ensure all technical specifications meet both production and design requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly receive and provide instructions, actively seek clarification, and adjust to evolving project needs.
  • Demonstrated capability to adapt to changing priorities, efficiently resolve challenges, and consistently deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience collaborating with translation agencies is desirable.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $80,000 - $125,000 annually. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
