Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literacy education and the ability to inspire participants to improve their reading skills, enabling them to succeed academically and professionally. This is a year-round,12 month position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop engaging and effective reading curriculum materials, lesson plans, and activities aligned with state educational standards and tailored to participants' reading levels and interests.
  • Instructional Delivery: Deliver interactive and dynamic reading lessons that focus on fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and critical thinking.
  • Skill Enhancement: Implement strategies to improve participants' reading skills, including decoding, inferencing, summarizing, and analyzing texts.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Administer assessments to evaluate participants' reading proficiency, track their progress, and provide constructive feedback for growth.
  • Individualized Support: Identify participants' unique learning needs and provide personalized instruction, accommodations, and support to help them succeed.
  • Classroom Environment: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, and a love for reading.
  • Technology Integration: Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance reading instruction and equip participants with digital literacy skills.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow instructors, program staff, and support services to address participants' holistic educational and personal needs.


Qualifications:

  • New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts (grades 7-12) or a relevant field
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience in teaching reading, literacy, or English language arts at various levels, with an emphasis on reading improvement strategies
  • Strong understanding of reading assessment tools, instructional methodologies, and literacy development techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for supporting young adults in their literacy journey and fostering a lifelong love of reading.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and willingness to integrate it into teaching practices.


Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 Annually
