APL Engineered Materials, Inc. manufactures specialty inorganic solid chemicals for use in conventional lighting, radiation detection, energy-related and other niche applications. We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Scientist or Engineer in Urbana, Illinois. The candidate will have a strong passion for developing new technologies or processes and help work towards scaling these processes.
Duties And Responsibilities
Synthesis of materials by solid state, solution and other routes.
Be skillful in basic process design and design of experiments.
Build experimental systems and conduct basic commissioning and testing, as needed.
Assist with process development and scale-up efforts.
Participate in developing product costing, roadmaps and other commercial activities. Other tasks, as assigned.
Be well organized. Possess a safety mindset.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science. Engineers with extensive R&D chemistry experience are also strongly encouraged to apply. 1-4 years industrial experience is desired.
This is a hands-on position. Experience synthesizing inorganic materials is needed. Working with hazardous materials is a plus.
Experience with gas flow, vacuum systems and high-temperature furnaces.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to solve key problems independently or collaboratively.
Be able to lawfully work in the U.S. without the need for employment visa sponsorship.
