Overview

Founded in 1947 by Nina Vance, the Alley Theatre is a pioneer of regional theatre, and one of the leading nonprofit theatre companies in the United States. JOB STATEMENT

The Season 78 Production Assistant is a non-union member of the stage management team, actively assisting and supporting during pre-production, rehearsals, performances, production related meetings and events as determined by the Production Stage Manager, and AEA Stage Managers. The Staff Production Assistant multitasks on Alley Theatre seasonal productions, as assigned, and has stage management team responsibilities and duties as requested.

Job Duties

  • Attend daily rehearsals and performances as assigned.
  • Assist the AEA Stage Managers in performing assigned tasks required during the preproduction, rehearsal and performance processes.
  • Work alongside stage managers, Stage Supervisor and Wardrobe Supervisor assisting with running and coordination of rehearsals and performances as assigned.
  • Support, assist and represent the best interests of the Alley Theatre Artistic department, including but not limited to Artistic Director, Associate Producer/Casting Director, Literary Associates, Resident Acting Company, and guest artists.
  • Study and understand the LORT collective bargaining agreement with Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the union of professional actors and stage managers.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS And KNOWLEDGE)

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, energized and quickly changing environment
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills
  • Detail oriented, able to prioritize efficiently and multi-task
  • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative
  • Should be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong communication skills, both written and in person
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Computer proficient with Word, Excel
  • Understanding of historical and institutional racism in the American theatre, or a commitment to learning, and to be a part of Alley Theatre’s efforts to be an anti-racist organization
  • Professional theatre work experience

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing during show performances.
  • Ability to lift and move 25 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment where directions and priorities can change rapidly.
  • Typical hours during show assignments are tech and performance schedules Tuesday – Sunday afternoon/evening hours, on non-performance weeks, hours are typical Tuesday – Saturday daytime hours.
