Preschool/Elementary Social Worker Leader

Function / Position Summary

The Social Worker Related Services Leader will support the Social Work-Related Services to assist with the provision of social work services and support to students, families, and schools. Will provide support and guidance in areas such as: best practices, mentoring, coaching and training for new and returning staff. This leader will support colleagues through problem solving and advocacy of resources to perform their duties as social workers.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Operations regarding daily social work operations, SD committee meeting agenda items, SIP topics and work plans, and department needs through regular weekly or bi-weekly meetings.
  • Provide individualized and classroom-based support to assigned teachers in implementing instructional strategies in alignment with the Danielson framework, U-46 Rising and the Instructional Clarity Framework for Elementary/Preschool Social Workers.
  • Plan and facilitate session(s) during New Teacher Orientation (NTO) and NTO extension for new Elementary/Preschool Social Workers.
  • Facilitate Department Forums, Collaboration Meetings, and other meetings as needed and Support the work of the School Department Committee and Improvement Team with the Asst. Director–Operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to all Elementary/Preschool and contract Social Workers.
  • Provide support, mentoring/coaching, and training on departmental procedures to new Elementary/Preschool and contract Social Workers.
  • Collaborate with other district related service providers to develop and maintain departmental guidelines to ensure consistency across the district.
  • Participate in the interview process for hiring new district and contract staff.
  • Work collaboratively with university placement coordinators and the U-46 Teacher Leader for Teacher Effectiveness Initiative to coordinate student placements for practicum students.
  • Review and provide input regarding staffing allocations and assignments.
  • Assist in the planning of professional development activities for the department, including setting up PD courses in -the district digital platform.
  • Maintain and update the related services digital platforms (i.e. intranet, google site, etc.).
  • Review and make recommendations in collaboration with the SD Committee for materials, supplies and assessments; technology for department.
  • Problem solve specific caseload questions, unique student situations, attend IEP meetings as requested.
  • Serve as a peer consulting teacher if/when matched with a potential Participating Teacher to discuss the Peer Assistance Review (PAR) Program, to establish mutually agreed upon performance goals, to develop a Professional Development Plan (PDP), and to develop a process for the successful completion of the PAR program. The process will be confidential and non-evaluative.
  • As a potential Peer Consulting Teacher (PCT), conduct a minimum of 5 observations per semester of the Participating Teacher during classroom instruction and provide specific, immediate feedback after each visit, including maintaining a written log of contacts and specific support given to each
  • Participating Teacher as well as monitoring progress and providing periodic written and/or oral reports to the Participating Teacher for discussion and review.
  • Participate in meetings and prepare and discuss reports to share with the PAR panel upon request.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Education
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, LCSW preferred but not required
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Work endorsement
  • Performance Evaluation Qualifications (Teacher) required
  • Minimum 5 years of school-based social worker work experience
  • Experience / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of school social work assessment and therapy
  • Knowledge of current state laws/regulations as they pertain to social work staff and proficiency standards
  • Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups (initiating individual or group discussion, active listening, clarifying and facilitating interactions, sharing of ideas, etc.)
  • Skills in communicating effectively with staff and families regarding social work needs of students.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite products/Microsoft Word and Excel a plus
  • Ability to learn new technology/software a plus
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with unscheduled interruptions
  • Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing at desk/on computer
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
