Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Handles communication tasks in support of safety, security, and general law enforcement operations for the NS Police department.

Principal Duties

  • Receives and prioritizes both emergency and non-emergency calls for railroad police services from Norfolk Southern employees, public law enforcement agencies, and the general public to ensure appropriate response.
  • Utilizes state and national computer networks to obtain criminal histories of persons encountered on Norfolk Southern's property.
  • Inputs calls for Railroad Police services in the Norfolk Southern Police Department's Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD).
  • Monitors police field activities to ensure officer safety and to afford appropriate protection for lading, equipment and facilities to deter depredations.
  • Receives, documents, and disseminates information concerning a wide variety of high value shipments to appropriate field personnel.
  • Receives and processes complaints and other calls on Norfolk Southern's grade Crossing Hotline concerning grade crossing problems, malfunctions and other rail related incidents.
