The Baltimore Banner is a nonprofit newsroom founded to bring high-quality local journalism to the Baltimore metro area. We are creating a vibrant, strong, trustworthy, and sustainable news organization, seeking to re-imagine the future of local news. Using a multi-platform news operation, covering a broad range of topics from local government to culture and the arts. We tell stories that reflect the community, connecting neighbors, holding government institutions accountable, and making sense of the world. All this work is grounded in truth. About the role:
The Baltimore Banner is seeking an experienced photojournalist to enhance our digital storytelling through compelling visual content across web and mobile platforms.
Ideal candidates are collaborative, ambitious, and willing to experiment with ways to tell stories visually in multiple platforms, whether through Instagram stories, Tik Tok, or videography. Photographers should have excellent news judgment and work in a fast-paced environment and think outside the box. We are looking for ideas on visually engaging readers of all ages.

Responsibilities:
- Work with people across the newsroom, including reporters and the audience engagement team, on telling stories in visually compelling ways.
- Use strong editorial judgment to make sure photographs and other visual materials meet copyright and ethics questions.
- Create visuals for many story types – features, narratives, investigations, news, enterprises, daily coverage – best for mobile and website readers.
- Pitch ideas that use multimedia and other innovative visual storytelling tools.
- Represent The Banner in the community as needed – in person or on television or radio appearances.
- A minimum of 3 years of photography experience in journalism, specifically covering news and sports
- Proficient in the latest photo and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Photo Mechanic)
- Strong ability to use social media to enhance and promote visual storytelling and keep in touch with what readers are talking about
- Teamwork and willingness to collaborate with others
- A talent for building positive relationships and a willingness to learn from constructive criticism
- Willingness to work some nights and weekends as news dictates
- A commitment to upholding journalistic values and ethics
