The position of resident entails provision of patient care matching with the individual physician's level of advancement and competency. Residency is the phase of formal medical education beginning at graduation from medical school and ending after the educational requirements for the medical specialty certifying board has been completed. A resident physician's responsibilities include patient care activities within the scope of their clinical privileges commensurate with the level of training, attendance at clinical rounds and seminars, timely completion of medical records, and other responsibilities as assigned or as required of all members of the medical staff.
Under the supervision of attending physicians, general responsibilities of the resident physician may include, but not limited to:
Initial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial
Perform history and
Develop assessment and treatment

Record progress
Order tests, examinations, medications, and
Arrange for discharge and after
Enter into the EMR admission notes, progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge
Provide patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning.

Participates and implements age specific care and

Initiate and follow a personal program of professional growth in conjunction with the
formal educational and training of our residency programs.
This includes but is not limited to ensuring compassionate, appropriate, and cost-effective patient
Skills demonstrated by the resident should be commensurate with their level of training and responsibility.
Perform procedures as required by individual programs, at first under strict supervision until competence is documented, then
Each program will submit to the GME office, on a semi-annual basis, lists of procedures for which residents have been certified and allowed to practice independently.
Participate in the education and training of students and other trainees at a level commensurate with required skills.
Meet institutional requirements with respect to medical records in accordance with
medical records policy.
Participate on committees and councils whose actions affect resident education and patient care.
Participate in institution-sponsored Interdisciplinary Grand Rounds or other program-specific didactic educational experiences.
Attends specified staff meetings and maintains a satisfactory record of work
Participate in education programs dealing with physician impairment, substance abuse and sleep deprivation.
Abides by the laws, rules and regulations of the professional staff, the terms of the hospital contract, and other guidelines established by the hospital.
