FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of PC Support/Network Support Technician for the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.

Job Summary

The PC Support/Network Support Technician will ensure the stable operation of the enterprise computer network at several FVSU Head Start Locations in Middle and South Georgia, as well as support employees from Head Start that come to the main campus.

The PC Support/Network Support Technician will attend trainings/meetings required by Head Start and training/meetings with Office of Information Technology for professional development and to stay up to date with trends in technology.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

The candidate will assist with:

  • Implementing security measures.
  • Equipment installation and repair.
  • Office moves of computer and equipment.
  • Responding to emails and phone support, ticket support requests, and special IT projects.
  • Using computer hardware, software, and other related equipment.
  • Installing and configuring hardware, operating systems, and application software on new and existing PCs, laptops, and printers.
  • Maintaining computer inventory.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting for employees.
  • Staying up to date with emerging technologies and trends in the IT industry.
  • Offering technical support to company staff and troubleshoot computer problems.
  • Installing and updating company software and hardware as needed.
  • Anticipating and reporting the cost of replacing and updating computer items.
  • Planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software and communication links.
  • Providing great customer service to all stakeholders
  • Coordinating Classroom and conference AV projects in accordance with FVSU campus standards
  • Deploying, fixing, staff and teachers' computers in accordance with FVSU campus standards.
  • Recommending, scheduling, and performing network improvements, upgrades and repairs.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining the policies and procedures for network resource administration and disaster recovery.
  • Troubleshooting audiovisual equipment and assist in projects
  • Managing security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems or intrusion prevention systems
  • Interacting and negotiating with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
  • Be able to quote technology items that are requested

Be a mentor or provide guidance to other IT professionals.

  • Act as functional area lead at times on projects.
  • Excel at working solo or team environments
  • Implement other job duties as directed or as assigned.
  • Ability to handle Technology procurement documents and requisitions according to University System of Georgia, Fort Valley State University, Federal Government and State of Georgia standards. Also, be able do technology purchase lifecycle from beginning to end. This will include quoting, contract routing and other required of technology purchases.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field; equivalent training and experience may be considered
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of network technologies
  • Able to configure network switches or firewalls
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong knowledge of office applications, operating system, computer networking, and IT support.
  • Six months or more on the job experience in one of the following areas: installation, repair, and maintenance of computers and networking.
  • Must have computer experience that will facilitate ready-to-use software.
  • Must be able to list at least 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science
  • Network +
  • Certification in CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)

WORKING CONDITIONS And JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Climate-controlled working environment.
  • Must be punctual and able to work Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Must be able to work indoors as well as transition the classroom to outdoors.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Must be able to work on technology that are located outside.
  • Job requires sitting for long period of time (during planning and reporting) and standing for long periods of time (during observations and training), as well as stooping, squatting, and walking.
  • Traveling in a car from site to site.
  • Availability to attend programmatic trainings, meetings, and seek out staff development opportunities.
