Summary

The LSA Dean's Office is looking to hire an upcoming or recent graduate (Class of 2024 or Class of 2023) who embraces the mission, vision, and values of LSA to join our team for this one-year fellowship. The Dean's Fellowship is awarded to a recent U-M bachelor's degree graduate with career aspirations in higher education. The fellowship offers in-depth experience across a range of areas of the college and provides an excellent opportunity to develop professional skills while working closely with faculty and staff leaders in the college. This year, the Dean?s Fellow will be assigned to the Division of Undergraduate Education and will report to the Executive Director of the Division.

The fellow will have projects out of the Division of Undergraduate Education, as well as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office. The fellow may also work on special projects proposed by various areas of the Dean?s Office. The Dean's Fellow will work closely with the events team while also getting a range of experience across the college's administrative functions. The fellowship provides an experience that can help the fellow pursue future opportunities in higher education or higher education graduate programs.

In-person meetings and events are expected for this role and the Dean's Fellow should plan to work on campus at least four days per week, with one remote day each week.

This is a term-limited temporary position beginning approximately September 2024 and ending August 31, 2025.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Working as part of a team to support the day-to-day operations, initiatives, events, and programming efforts of the Division of Undergraduate Education. This includes assisting various working groups, task forces, and committees.
  • Assisting with student outreach and engagement activities, programming, assessment, event planning, and related projects.
  • Drafting briefing materials and other summaries; conducting benchmarking and other forms of research.
  • Assisting with the Inclusive Campus Collaborative (ICC) Steering Committee by scheduling and scribing meetings, preparing agendas, assisting ICC member recruitment, and supporting the efforts of the newly-formed ICC student subcommittee.
  • Assisting with the Foundations of DEI in the Workplace (FDW) Student Employee DEI Certificate (SEDC) program including attending planning committee meetings, assisting with recruitment and assessment, and generally supporting the efforts of the committee.
  • Assisting with event and workshop logistics such as planning, set-up/take-down, and distribution and evaluation of surveys.
  • Helping support other special projects within the college as assigned.


Required Qualifications*

  • Applicants must be on track to graduate with a bachelor?s degree from the University of Michigan as part of the class of 2024 or be bachelor?s degree graduate of the University of Michigan from the class of 2023.
  • The ability to learn quickly with a willingness to approach projects with initiative and curiosity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while fostering a culture of respect and cooperation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to balance multiple projects at the same time and to meet established deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including excellence in writing and editing.
  • Demonstrated savvy in relation to digital environments (Google Docs, Zoom, etc.).
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.

The salary for this position is $20.43 hourly. When annualized to a full-time rate, this equates to $42,500 annually.
