Lead UX Designer

BookedBy creates B2B2C software to help service-based businesses grow and manage their business. As a leader in the salon/beauty space, BookedBy has provided 40-million-plus bookings and check-ins for its business partners such as SportClips, Perfect Look and Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids. BookedBy is at the beginning of an exciting growth phase, extending its platform to meet the needs of additional industries.

Role Description:

BookedBy seeks a strong lead designer who can take design at BookedBy to the next level in a player/coach role. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to flex their leadership skills and instill strong design practices in an organization that is hungry to learn from your experience.

As a coach, you will lead and grow a small design team. You will own the design end-to-end of BookedBy across multiple platforms and personas. You will oversee the implementation of a design system that allows BookedBy to build capabilities for new industries in a scalable way.

As an individual contributor, you will act as the designer for two product squads. You will talk to customers, explore solutions, and take ideas from conception into reality. You will own interaction design, visual design, and collaborate with your Product partners to do customer research. You will collaborate with developers to inform your designs and to make your vision come to life.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design for BookedBy across multiple platforms, serving end consumers, store employees, and corporate employees.
• Act as a thought partner with Product leadership, elevating design to be a strategic driver for the product and the company.
• Design new features that enable success in new verticals and new types of service businesses.
• Lead, grow, and coach a small, distributed design team.
• Drive the design team’s consistent application of design patterns and components, such that our developers can build new capabilities in a scalable fashion.

Qualifications and Skills:

• 5-7+ years of hands-on UX design experience across web and mobile, ideally with significant experience designing for both B2B and B2C products.
• 1-3+ years of experience coaching designers.
• Previous experience at a start-up
• Created and implemented a design system and have the battle scars to prove it.
• A strong sense for when to push for quality and when good enough is good enough.
• Experience leveraging data to make design decisions.
• Strong customer empathy and qualitative research experience.
• An understanding of how design informs engineering and how engineering informs design.
• A portfolio that demonstrates your mastery of these skills and clearly communicates the process you used, tradeoffs you made, your role in the project, and what impact you had on the results of the project.
