We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs in achieving their educational goals. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining a positive and nurturing learning environment while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
Key Responsibilities
Record and document academic, behavioral, and health information accurately using designated service logs.
Guide students in utilizing instructional materials and equipment effectively.
Provide constructive feedback to parents based on observations of student progress.
Work individually with students to reinforce educational objectives as outlined by teachers and parents.
Modify activities, assignments, and materials to accommodate student needs and facilitate goal achievement.
Support students in developing social skills and managing emotional or behavioral challenges.
Assist in implementing behavioral techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
Maintain a secure and supportive learning atmosphere for students.
Preferred Qualifications
First Aid and/or CPR certification (preferred but not required).
Additional Responsibilities
Report any changes in students' physical conditions promptly to parents.
Demonstrate knowledge of growth, development, and educational challenges faced by students with disabilities.
Familiarity with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and special education programs.
Exhibit patience, understanding, and a positive attitude toward students of varying ages, temperaments, and abilities.
Uphold professionalism in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
Proficient in written and spoken English.
Competent in using computers and relevant software applications.
Maintain confidentiality of student information and handle materials securely.
Navigate educational technology platforms and assistive devices effectively.
Document services accurately in compliance with organizational standards.
Remain calm and respond appropriately during emergencies.
Requirements
Minimum of 60 college credits or an Associate's degree.
At least 1-year experience working with adolescents (e.g., employment, volunteer work, internship, student teaching).
Tuberculosis Test with negative results (less than 1 year old).
Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance (Act 34).
Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151).
Federal Criminal History Clearance (Act 24).
CPR & First Aid Certification (preferred).
