Graduate Studies Application Developer (APPLICATIONS PROGR 2)

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor for Enterprise Applications, this position is primarily responsible for assisting in the development, maintenance, and integration of IT applications to support and enhance business processes essential to the administration of graduate education at UC Davis.

Collaborate with team members to analyze campus-wide, departmental, and individual business and academic needs, contributing to process improvements. Contribute to the analysis, design, and development of automated solutions at hardware and software levels. Utilize industry-standard programming tools and techniques to support the development of a web presence focused on promoting education, research, and support for graduate students.

Participate in designing, developing, and maintaining systems that integrate with various campus enterprise systems. Use industry-standard development and operations practices to ensure implementations reflect our established priorities, preserve data quality, and comply with university security and privacy standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • 2+ years of software development experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Experience in full-stack development, including JavaScript, NodeJS, CSS, REST API, and AWS.
  • Experience in SQL and NoSQL systems (PL-SQL for Oracle, PL/pgSQL for Postgres).
  • Experience in Bitbucket and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience in unit testing.
  • Experience documenting technical requirements.
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the design, development and deployment of large scope projects using cloud technologies (e.g. AWS EC2, S3, VPC, ECS, RDS, Lambda, Glacier, CloudWatch) with an emphasis on best practice cloud security.
  • Experience with React.
  • Experience collaborating with clients and managing complex technology projects including building requirements and project estimates and recognizing and analyzing current and future needs.
  • Knowledge of the UC policy and applicable laws and legislation governing privacy, such as the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
  • Working knowledge of higher education enterprise applications such as student information systems, financial systems, and human resource information systems.
  • Familiarity with campus CyberSafety standards and administrative computing policies.

Department Overview

The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. In support of the University’s mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community. Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) within IET creates, deploys, and manages business, academic, and infrastructure systems. The Enterprise Applications team within the Application Delivery unit of EIS, develops, manages, operates and maintains faculty and student facing applications and related integration services.

Work Environment

  • Hire MUST be located in-state. (Out of state applicants will be considered but must relocate instate if hired). This position can be done primarily remote with the expectation that the employee must be available to come on site should management deem it necessary for emergencies, meetings, support activities, etc. No reimbursement of travel expenses, travel time not considered work hours.
  • Occasionally work flexible, alternate, and/or extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays to address specific operational needs.
  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.
  • Occasional travel to locations on and off campus.
  • Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to the supervisor or the designated safety coordinator.
