Summary

Deseret Cattle Feeders is seeking a high-performing General Manager to be responsible for the financial, production, security, and safety performance of feedlot operations including ranching and all other business enterprises across the assigned ranch. A successful General Manager will develop an overall strategy with short- and long-term operations plans for the feedlot, as well as build rapport with strategic marketing partners to deliver a high return for the division and company.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team while driving a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Identify and mentor potential future leaders.
  • Ensure that the vision, key objectives, and programs are understood, communicated and that employees understand their role in helping to execute.
  • Identify and articulate overall feeding strategy and vision, then develop protocols and procedures to achieve goals and objectives that maximize profitability and optimize value.
  • Develop a feed/corn strategy and purchases that achieve optimal pricing.
  • Maximize yard capacity which may include purchasing cattle.
  • Identify key metrics and systems to plan, implement, and report outcomes.
  • Routinely monitor production systems to ensure adherence to protocols and procedures.
  • Lead the development of annual capital and operational budgets, as well as reporting of operational and capital expenditure.
  • Protect and advance organizational interests through participation in industry and community organizations.
  • Lead a best-in-class safety program by promoting consistent safety training attendance, compliance with all OSHA and company/industry policies, as well as encouraging the use of PPE and adherence to all other EHS programs.
  • Represent the feedlot, division and AgReserves, Inc. with the utmost professionalism and integrity.
  • Build strategic relationships with all members of the Cattle Division, as well as lease holders, ranch customers, the local community, governmental agencies, and the cattle industry.
  • Protect, manage, and enhance the natural resources and the value of the property through awareness of long-term planning as it relates to transportation, water, environmental regulations, and land use.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the cattle industry with proven track record of financial accountability and performance.
  • 5+ years in a managerial role in the cattle feeding industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and inclusive leadership skills.
  • Solid problem-solving and team building skills with ability to influence, affect change, and execute through obstacles.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient technical and computer skills, including the use of Microsoft tools and other proprietary systems/software.
  • Accommodate the regular farm schedule of 50 hours per week, which includes days, nights, holidays, and weekends, as well as extensive travel.
