Organization Information:

All children have the courage to play, but barriers such as limited family budgets or the need for an adaptive environment can keep them from participating. Can Play strives to increase the positive impacts on youth through the growth and evolution of adaptive and no-cost sports and recreational activities. The organization has created programs for underserved participants to give them the opportunity to play and build self-confidence despite the barriers.


Internship Description:

Can Play’s Opportunity Program Internship is a comprehensive training program created to prepare college students with a background or interest in sports, recreation, sports management, or a related field the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, manage and deliver programming to youth. Intern roles & responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Collaborating with our program manager, coaches and volunteers to deliver high-quality programs
  • Assisting our program team to ensure all facilities, vehicles, equipment, meals, uniforms, and other materials are prepared
  • Assisting with the participant marketing and registration process
  • Helping to evaluate and analyze our programming
  • Developing and improving program curricula, resources and materials
  • Leading other special projects that will enhance the accessibility, impact and effectiveness of our programming


Can Play will work with interns to meet any educational internship requirements. Interns are expected to intern approximately 10-20 hours per week, mostly during typical work hours (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday), but also once or twice a week during weekday evenings or Saturday morning. As a non-profit organization, Can Play’s intern program is unpaid, however it allows for students to pursue a paid part-time position outside of Can Play.


Qualifications:


  • Experience with children, especially those from diverse backgrounds
  • Pursuing a degree or interest working in sports, recreation, sports management or related field
  • Desire to collaborate with a team and be an excellent teammate
  • Able to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and work independently to complete project
  • Excellent at solving complex problems efficiently
