Your Role: Executive Director, Technical Services/Material Sciences

The Executive Director of TSMS is responsible for providing technical and strategic leadership for the Technical Services, Material Science (TSMS) operational function at Elanco covering all internal and external supply nodes. The role is integral to delivering Elanco’s mission of on time product innovation launch, product supply robustness and technical process-based productivity across our small molecule and biological based manufacturing platforms.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the SVP of Quality/HSE/TSMS, this role is a member of Elanco’s Senior Manufacturing Global leadership team and will develop and implement a strategic vision for TSMS at Elanco.
  • Assure that appropriate process capability strategies are deployed at sites/external manufacturers to deliver manufacturing processes which are in control, capable, compliant and continuously improving, to assure on time supply, in alignment with Quality (FDA, Eudralex, USDA) and HSE Manufacturing Standards.
  • Grow the talent pipeline in the TSMS functions through aligning leadership on recruitment strategies, implementation of robust succession planning, and development of key talents within the TSMS networks. Partner with Operations leadership to assure that the appropriate technical capability is in place within the manufacturing networks.
  • Facilitate resolution of complex process capability related issues, through appropriate deployment of Central TSMS resources and oversight of investigations/remediation programs.
  • Assure appropriate management of complex technical agendas through appropriate selection, functioning and management of Global Post Launch Optimization Teams.
  • Partner with R&D to deliver on time launch of new product innovation.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or pharmacy
  • Required Experience: 15+ years’ experience in scientific/engineering related areas (including quality, tech services, engineering) in the life sciences industry.
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience with FDA/EU GMP regulatory requirements for process development/registration.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Biotech Processing).
  • Strong understanding of Statistics and/or Six Sigma
  • Demonstrated technical abilities in multiple technology platforms
  • Demonstrated skills in creating alignment, fostering change, developing high performing teams and growing the next level of leaders
  • Demonstrated operational strategy problem solving experience identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities
  • Deep understanding of the product development lifecycle including regulatory engagement over multiple product platforms
  • Track record of working with global teams to enable goal delivery.

Additional Information:

  • Ability to travel 30%, including international travel.
  • Global Headquarters in Greenfield, IN (Indianapolis) – Hybrid work environment. Moving to downtown Indianapolis in April 2025.
