The role of the PMO Head in our company is to provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Project Management Office (PMO). He/She is responsible for establishing and maintaining project management standards, methodologies, processes and deliver the value expected across the organization. The PMO Head ensures effective project governance, resource allocation, and strong integration with project portfolio management. He/She collaborate with stakeholders to align projects with business objectives, monitor project performance, mitigate risks and ensure the delivery of the value expected. Additionally, the PMO Head plays a crucial role in developing and coaching project managers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving the successful delivery of projects to achieve organizational goals.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a strategic plan for the PMO, aligning it with the organization's goals and objectives. This includes defining the PMO's mission, vision, and key performance indicators.
  • Project Governance: Establish and enforce project governance processes and standards to ensure consistent project management practices across the organization. This includes defining project management methodologies, templates, and tools.
  • Resource Management: Oversee resource allocation and capacity planning to ensure optimal utilization of resources across projects. This includes identifying resource gaps, facilitating resource allocation decisions, and monitoring resource utilization.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, project sponsors, and team members. This includes effective communication, managing expectations, and addressing stakeholder concerns.
  • Project Portfolio Management: Ensure strong integration with the project portfolio, including project prioritization, selection, and monitoring. This includes regular portfolio reviews, assessing project performance, and making data-driven decisions with the Portfolio manager.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish mechanisms to monitor project performance, track key metrics, and provide regular reports to stakeholders. This includes identifying project risks and issues, implementing mitigation strategies, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the PMO and across project teams. This includes promoting lessons learned, implementing best practices, and driving process improvements.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide strong leadership to the PMO team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. This includes mentoring and developing team members, promoting professional growth, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Change Management: Support organizational change initiatives by effectively managing change within the PMO and supporting project teams in adopting new processes, tools, or methodologies.
  • Developing and Coaching People: Actively invest in the development and growth of team members within the PMO and project teams. This includes providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching to enhance their project management skills, leadership abilities, and overall professional growth. Encourage a culture of continuous learning and provide opportunities for skill-building through training programs, workshops, and certifications. Foster a supportive environment that empowers individuals to reach their full potential and contribute to the success of the PMO and organization as a whole.
  • Ensuring Capability Building, Career Paths, and Succession Plans: Take a proactive approach in identifying and addressing the capability needs of project/program managers across the organization. Develop and implement training programs, workshops, and mentoring initiatives to enhance their skills, knowledge, and competencies. Establish clear career paths for project/program managers, providing them with growth opportunities and a roadmap for advancement within the organization. Additionally, create succession plans to identify and groom potential future leaders in project management roles. This includes identifying high-potential individuals, providing them with development opportunities, and ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities when needed. By investing in capability building, career paths, and succession planning, the PMO Head can foster a strong talent pipeline and ensure the long-term success of project/program management within the organization.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the organization's business objectives, industry trends, and market dynamics. This includes staying informed about emerging project management practices and technologies.
  • Risk Management: Place a strong emphasis on proactive risk management within the PMO. Encourage project managers to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle. Establish robust risk management processes and tools to ensure risks are effectively captured, analyzed, and addressed. Foster a culture of risk awareness and encourage open communication about potential risks and mitigation strategies. Provide guidance and support in developing risk response plans and monitoring risk mitigation efforts. Continuously evaluate and update risk management practices to ensure projects are well-prepared to handle potential challenges and uncertainties.

Encourage project managers to develop their influencing abilities and provide guidance on navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.   • Coaching and Developing People: Actively invest in the development and growth of team members within the PMO and project teams. Provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching to enhance their project management skills, leadership abilities, and overall professional growth. Encourage a culture of continuous learning and provide opportunities for skill-building through training programs, workshops, and certifications. Foster a supportive environment that empowers individuals to reach their full potential and contribute to the success of the PMO and organization as a whole.
  • Ethical Conduct: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all aspects of project management. Promote transparency, integrity, and fairness in decision-making processes. Encourage project managers to adhere to ethical guidelines and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline from an accredited institution required
  • MBA/Master's Degree preferred
  • 10-15 years of experience in project management, with a focus on strategic initiatives and complex projects
  • Hands-on leader with 15 plus years of experience in project management, business transformation and process improvement, preferably in a global Consumer Products Organization.
  • Strong consulting and problem-solving skills. At least 5 years at a leading management consulting firm focusing on executable strategy, business transformation, and engagement leadership.
  • Strong executive presence. Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate to all levels of the organization as well as leading initiatives within cross-functional teams in a consultative manner.
  • Strong collaborator and results-focused leader
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing cross-functional projects in a matrixed environment
  • Experience in the healthcare, consumer goods, or related industries preferred
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives

The approximate pay range for this position is $180,000 to $195,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
