Summary Statement

Are you looking to truly make a difference in a student’s educational journey? Teachers at DSCYF provide instructional planning, monitoring, and support of the educational needs of our students by using the approved curriculum to organize and deliver instruction. The role of the Curriculum and Testing Coordinator exists to provide expertise, recommended resources, and supports to DSCYF teachers across six different facilities (Principal or Asst. Principal certification is required). This position is also responsible for ensuring the students in the six different DSCYF educational sites are receiving consistent educational curriculum that provides appropriate rigor and lessons which are meaningful and engaging. This position also serves as the Comprehensive Induction Program’s Site Coordinator, managing and facilitating the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE)’s induction program for all new DSCYF teachers. Furthermore, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all state testing protocols and procedures, managing testing calendars and environments, and facilitating testing at each site. This position is a 12-month position with scheduled holiday breaks and two short summer breaks and work hours are 8:30-4:30pm.

Unique Characteristics Of Education In This Setting Include

  • Small classes of between 2 and 12 students, on average
  • Occasional mixed grade/age levels in classes, depending upon current enrollment and student needs
  • Teaching year-round, including the summer
  • Three-week summer break, in addition to scheduled holiday breaks (Christmas, Easter, etc.)
  • Pay is based on the Delaware Code Title 14, Chapter 13,
  • 1307. (Teacher pay--scale attached--with an administrative supplement that is based on years of Administrative Experience + Hazardous Duty Pay)

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position.

  • Build and update prioritized curriculum and pacing guides with built in supports and resources for teachers.
  • Organize and facilitate professional learning communities among teachers and administrators related to the implementation of prioritized curriculum and pacing guides.
  • Assist facility schools in developing professional development plans based upon needs assessments, student data, appropriate schedules, professional development offerings available via DDOE and contracted facilitators.
  • Maintain knowledge of Professional Development and training requirements by agency, division, unit, and by the Delaware Department of Education.
  • Lead the curriculum committee and assist with selecting appropriate instructional curriculum for unit-wide implementation.
  • Provide on-site support to principals and teachers as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with Education Unit Supervisor, Special Education Director, and facility leaders to facilitate system, school, and classroom improvement efforts.
  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with schools centered on support for teaching, learning, curriculum, and instruction.
  • Stay current on professional research and disseminate information on evidence-based practices to Education Unit staff.
  • Other duties as assigned and as curriculum, instructional, and testing needs change.
  • Participate regularly in DDOE Communication and Collaboration Network (CCN), Digital Learning Cadre, Curriculum Cadre, Comprehensive Induction Program Site Coordinator Meetings, and District Test Coordinator Meetings.
  • Serve as the DSCYF District Testing Coordinator, including administering testing and providing ongoing supervision and training in state and national curriculum standards, the Delaware System of Student Assessment (DeSSA), and the Star Implementation process.
  • Ensure and maintain Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA) Compliance.
  • Develop and direct new mentor training for identified staff.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization). Responsibilities

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Must hold a Master’s Degree in an educational program area with strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices with demonstrated instructional technology experience.
  • Must hold valid Delaware license and at least one standard certificate in a secondary content area AND a standard certificate in School Principal/Assistant Principal. Certification in K-12 Special Education is preferred, but not required.
  • At least five years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule, organize and perform multiple assignments in the telecomputing and other instructional technology areas with minimum supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in using technology, software applications, and data utilization for professional productivity and classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience with online content development and online learning activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge and application of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and other Delaware content area standards into the prioritized curriculum and pacing guides.
  • Demonstrated expertise in use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to logically analyze technical problems and to collect necessary information critical to problem resolution.
  • Demonstrated evidence on knowledge regarding best practices in effectively promoting student engagement while increasing student achievement.
  • Desire to work with alternative populations and at-risk youth.
