The Controller - GEC is a hands-on accounting role, handling all daily charter school accounting and finance responsibilities. This position requires the ability to work independently and autonomously on a wide range of financial duties including accounting, reporting, analyses, GAAP, payroll, and internal policies and procedures in order to provide accurate and timely financial statements. This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Controller are categorized into four areas
Management
Oversee the accounting operations of 1 FTE encompassing all entities, especially control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Ensures month-end close and year-end close deadlines are achieved accurately, timely and communicated effectively.
Lead with compassion, composure, and maturity.
Transactions
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner, ensuring reasonable discounts are taken.
Ensure that accounts receivable timely billed and collected promptly.
Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
Maintain the chart of accounts
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Reporting
Issue timely close, and complete financial statements and analysis
Identify and resolve variances from the budget or forecast and report significant issues to management.
Ensuring all accounts are timely reconciled and reconciling items properly identified with resolution and next steps.
Provide for a system of management reports
Ensure DCPCSB and OSSE reporting requirements are timely submitted.
Compliance
Diving the year-end audit requests with external auditors for the annual audits.
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Ensure DCPCSB and OSSE compliance requirements are timely submitted.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
As assigned by the CFO.

Required Qualifications
Active Professional CPA designation or Master’s Degree in finance related field; B.S. in Accounting required.
Ten years of professional accounting experience with progressive levels of responsibility with a minimum of five years’ experience at the management level.
Experience with finance and accounting of a Charter School and solid understanding of reporting and compliance requirements as a result. Preferred exposure to DCPCSB and OSSE a plus.
Hands on experience with general ledger, monthly closing procedures, monthly issuance of financial statements, variance, and analytical reports.
Prior experience defining and refining internal procedures.
Solid technical knowledge related to work assignments and willingness to take ownership of all accounting functions.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains 2018, highly desired.
Experience with Management Report, Prophix, PN3 a plus.
Excellent organizational, problem solving, critical/analytical thinking, and computer skills
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors
