A tool maker (CNC Machinist) is responsible for the creation, repair, and maintenance of all production tooling and molds. A tool maker must be able to build, maintain and repair all tools and molds involved in the compounding and molding operations. Tools and molds must be prepared in time for production to meet customer requirements. Reports and is responsible to the Tool Room Supervisor.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of and reporting to the Tool Room Supervisor, this position is responsible for:
Operating CNC Vertical Milling Machines
Building, repairing, and maintaining production tools and molds
Problem solving production tooling issues
Supporting manufacturing to maintain production, packaging, and product movement within the plant
NATURE AND SCOPE
The position of tool maker is an hourly position working on day shift, Monday - Friday 7am to 3:30pm. An average work week is comprised of 40 hours per week, $25 to $35/hr depending upon experience. Overtime is available on a per project basis. A tool maker must possess a complete knowledge of the tool making trade, and demonstrate excellent mechanical abilities.

JOB DUTIES
CNC Operation of Vertical Milling Machine
Performs routine maintenance and general repairs on tooling including but not limited to injection molds, compounding equipment dies, and production fixtures
Root causes tooling problems and repairs as required
Develops project task lists/designs for tooling changes and determines appropriate priorities for each item (Senior Tool maker task only.)
Uses various tools to fabricate tools and molds including but not limited to CNC milling machines, standard milling machines, radial drills, duplicating machines, grinders, lathes, saws and surface treatment equipment
Reads basic blueprints and has the ability to follow various printed and verbal instructions and directions
Performs plumbing and hydraulic repairs/installations as required
Maintains work areas in clean and safe condition while enforcing all safety rules
Conducts routine inspections of assigned areas and equipment, checking for defects and safety hazards
Conducts preventive maintenance on machines as required
Follows safe work practices at all times including the safe use of tools and equipment
Knows and follows all safety guidelines when dealing with any potentially hazardous material
Takes necessary precautions when using hazardous equipment and chemicals by securing work areas as needed
Works independently with minimal supervision
