Job Summary
Working within the objectives of the Center for Student Engagement, the Civic Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator is charged with advancing a culture of civic engagement and co-curricular community-based learning on campus, specifically throughout Student Affairs and via one-time projects and programs. The coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating volunteer programs. This position develops sponsorship/business arrangements and relationships with businesses, individuals, schools and other organizations interested in supporting FVSU students.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Planning
Develop plans to engage individual and group volunteers.
Develop a dynamic and effective volunteer/internship program that supports FVSU priorities and provides a satisfying experience for our volunteers.
Volunteer Coordination
Generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organization
Ensure there is appropriate support and training for volunteers
Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns
Interview and recruit volunteers and ensure they are appropriately matched and trained for a position
Monitor, support, motivate and accredit volunteers and their work
Celebrate volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and organize celebration events
Organize profile-raising events to attract new volunteers
Community Outreach
Attend internal and community-based committees and meetings
Work with multiple agencies across different sectors in order to establish good working relationships to influence decisions about volunteering.
Maintain databases and undertake any other administrative duties.
Educational Programs
Lead or assist in planning and executing a full range of educational programs for students
Select topics, obtain speakers and assure that all arrangements are made for rooms, audio/visual, food and beverage and publicity for all assigned events
Create any appropriate materials or handouts
Resources
Keep information sites (webpage and Org Sync) updated with announcements, links and other service-related documents.
Draft or update volunteer-related resources produced by the Center
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution
Three or more years of experience in volunteer services, civic engagement, and development and/or employment in a community outreach organization or the equivalent.
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Supervisory, management, and relationship-building skills.
Knowledge of project management; Strategic planning/visioning aptitude.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong commitment to working with our student population.
Budget management background/fundraising.
Understanding and appreciation of growing role technology plays in delivery of information.
Knowledge of university and Board of Regents policies and procedures.
Skilled in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Knowledge of public relations principles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to travel to service sites to gather information, as needed
Flexibility to attend events during the evening/night/weekend, as needed
May be required to work outdoors during community service events
Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment.
