We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Attorney to serve as legal counsel for our municipality. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in municipal law and a strong understanding of local government operations. This position will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and providing sound legal advice to city officials.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal counsel and representation for the city on all matters related to municipal law
Advise city officials on legal issues and potential risks
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements on behalf of the city
Manage and oversee the city's legal affairs, including litigation and legal disputes
Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may affect the city
Attend city council meetings and provide legal guidance on agenda items
Collaborate with other city departments to ensure compliance with all legal requirements
Provide legal guidance and oversight for city purchasing, zoning, land use, utility, and construction processes
Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in the state
Minimum of 2 years experience as a municipal or city attorney
Strong understanding of municipal law, local government operations, and legal principles
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with city officials and staff
Experience in drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements
Familiarity with legal issues related to purchasing, zoning, land use, utility, and construction
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
