Choir Accompanist - Jr High (Grades 7-8)

Primary Tasks & Major Activities

General Summary: The job of Accompanist provides professional musical support for students and instructors, ensures efficient use of rehearsal time and performance schedules. and ensures efficient use of class time while maintaining a positive learning environment for students. The position supports the success of the designated music program, provides students with high-quality service and instruction, serves as a role model of professionalism at musical productions, conveys and/or gathers information, ensures adequate materials are available and accurate records are maintained and supports district goals.

Essential Functions

• Rehearses with music classes daily and as specified by the designated music department.
• Learns multiple pieces of music per quarter.
• Accompanies and assists with all music groups, sectionals, choirs, rehearsals, competitions, auditions, field trips, performances, etc.
• Analyzes assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g., correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics, etc.)
• Attends before and after school rehearsals as required.
• Assists music instructors with a variety of student-related activities (e.g., prepare music materials for students and teachers to include recordings, packets, or sheet music, CD's for individual students and groups, practices with individuals and small groups, etc.)
• Keeps up-to-date records of sheet music, files music, organizes music in folders, and repairs music as needed.
• Assists the teacher(s) in supervising student activities.
• Assumes other responsibilities/projects as assigned by the music teacher or building principal.
  
  

Educational/Skills/Experience Required

Education Level - Targeted, job-related education with study in job-related area. Bachelor’s degree preferred and certificate of performance or music education.

Experience Desired – Job-related Experience Is Required.

Other requirements - Ability to perform as a piano accompanist during music classes and required performances, ability to learn multiple pieces of music, and play piano multiple times throughout each day; ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, sort and file material repeatedly on a daily basis. Understand and support the District’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions - Requires prolonged sitting and standing; requires stooping, bending, reaching and lifting; requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials; must work in stressful and hectic environments; requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; may require some travel; requires physical and emotional endurance; must be able to work long and irregular hours; and requires regular and consistent attendance and physical presence at the job.
