We are seeking a full-time Cellar Assistant to join our production team at Stone Tower Winery. The cellar assistant will be responsible for completing all types of wine work, winery sanitation, and cellar organization as laid out by the winemaking staff. They will also help provide leadership to harvest interns. A strong candidate for this position will be a hard worker, a self-starter, thoughtful in how they manage their time, an ability to pivot, and be a team player.

Stone Tower Winery is focused on crafting premium, world-class wines that exude a sense of place while working to support our community and Virginia’s growth as a premium winegrowing region. We are 35 miles west of Washington, D.C., situated on 500 acres, of which 95 are planted to Vinifera varietals that include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rhone Whites, Bordeaux reds, and Nebbiolo. We operate out of two onsite, state-of-the-art facilities that are designed specifically for the styles of wine we craft.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some full time winery experience
Forklift Experience
Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to problem solve
Skills/Experience Required:
Ability to work long hours and outside in all conditions
Ability to lift at least 50 lb.
Ability to be on your feet for extended periods
Willingness and ability to work 6 to 7 days/week during harvest
Previous winery production experience (at least 1 harvest)
Willingness to take direction and follow work orders through to completion
Ability to multitask in a fluid environment
Willingness to take on new tasks and learn new skills
Ability to work with others and independently
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Essential Tasks and Duties:
Assist winemaking team in ensuring a proper workflow while maintaining the highest level of quality and safety standards.
Assist and support winemaking team with all production and QC analysis for accuracy and potential wine quality issues.
Assist in training and leading seasonal production staff.
Assist with all harvest operations including sanitation, receiving and processing fruit, performing yeast inoculation, nutrient additions, fermentation monitoring, sample collection, and any other tasks as assigned.
Help ensure that all staff complies with relevant safety requirements and to help comply with OSHA regulatory requirements. Assist winemaker in the development of a safety plan and policy to address daily work activities, training of part-time winery workers and visitors to the winery.
Develop and maintain relationships within all departments by engaging with colleagues with respect and teamwork.
Promote a work environment that exudes positivity, teamwork, and gratefulness for all by providing staff with positive feedback, mentorship, and leadership.
Handle special projects as assigned
