SCC Job Description – Career Navigator

Job Title: Career Navigator                                                  Department: Programs

Reports to: Employer Engagement Program Manager                  Effective Date: July 1st, 2024

 

Job Summary:

The Career Navigator will help implement programs, grow partner relationships and assist individual SCC clients to address employment-related barriers and create unique, sustainable employment opportunities through direct work in the SCC Employment Opportunity Lab and in support of our Career Pathways programming.


Duties/Responsibilities:

·      Works closely with the Employer Engagement Program Manager to ensure employment-related services are effectively communicated and delivered to clients.

·      Proactively responds to walk-in and referred clients for initial intake and to gain a deep understanding of their specific needs whether employment or non-employment related, and to connect them with the appropriate staff and/or programming.

·      Provides various support and conducts activities related to event logistics, program facilitation and trainings, reporting on client activities, internal/external communications and other processes. Participates in the planning and implementation of new initiatives and programming.

·      Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all community stakeholders.

·      Performs outreach to cultivate relationships with both existing and prospective clients and community partners via phone calls/texts, e-mail and in-person meetings.

·      Helps clients in identifying resources and supports available for specific populations such as low-income, homeless, individuals with disabilities, etc. and referring clients to the appropriate team member or community partner for follow up.

·      Guides clients through various career pathways registration/enrollment processes including screenings and assessments for our Pre-Apprenticeship programming.

·      Assists individual clients with hands-on computer and technology support and training across the Microsoft and Google suite of tools, basic internet search, resume creation/editing/targeting and other requested needs.

·      Helps engage and vet local employers for fair-chance hiring practices and coordinates client referrals as well as employment opportunities with them.

·      Develops strong referral relationships with workforce centers and multiple community partners

·      Works closely with the team to support all functions of the SCC’s Employment Opportunity Lab and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure broader success in the SCC system.

·      Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and other internet use including CRM technology.

·      Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technology systems.

·      Language skills in Spanish and/or Arabic a plus.

 

Education and Experience:

·      Bachelors Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

·      At least two years related experience required, especially with demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

·      Strong experience in high-volume client- or customer-service environment with frequent change and lack of certainty in day-to-day schedule.

·      Strong experience and demonstrated comfort working with people who are justice-involved, low-income, homeless and/or have identified as having physical or mental disabilities/challenges in their lives.

 

Compensation: 

This is a full-time position (100% FTE) or 40 hours per week. The salary range for this position is $47,500 - $55,000. Competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

·      Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

·      Ability to stand for long periods of time while facilitating training

·      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
