Career and College Center Specialist

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supports HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Compose documents for the purpose of communicating information to students, school, district personnel and the public.
  • Collects and disseminates information related to post-high school options from a variety of sources: colleges and universities, community colleges, vocational schools, military service, etc. Disseminates information related to preparations for college such as testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB), applications, scholarships, FAFSA, etc.
  • Updates web page, participates in daily campus announcements, puts information on bulletin board, makes classroom visits, and sends information to teachers.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies, including the career center computers, for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials for internal use and distribution as required.
  • Tracks all student visits to Career Center and provides reports to administrator.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of Career Services Center special events for student and public needs, such as college or military visits.
  • Collects data on student plans and scholarships awarded for reporting.
  • Maintains a regular filing system, as well as a set of locked confidential files, and processes incoming correspondence as instructed.
  • Maintains a schedule of appointments and makes arrangements for conferences and interviews.
  • Liaison between CTE/ Career Services Centers and High School Counseling departments.
  • Proctors AP and on-line exams.
  • Coordinates ASVAB and ACT testing.
  • They are required to attend college Open House events.
  • Assist in gathering information and programming of site Awards Ceremony.
  • Prepare students for scholarships interviews. Example mock interviews.
  • Develop Career Center Marketing brochures.
  • Due to the nature of this position, and access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the Career Center and School office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Job-related experience is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Possession of excellent organizational and customer service skills with ability to multitask required. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work with frequent interruptions while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  • Occasionally move about the inside of the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time either standing or sitting.
  • Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time Position - 10 months Monday - Friday, 8 hours a day

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.

Min & Max Starting Salary: $ 18.05/HR - DOE
