Experience:

The Calibration & Instrument Repair Electrician must have (25) or more years of experience in the electrical field – Industrial, Marine or Commercial Nuclear applications.

Required skills:

  • 1. Must have extensive understanding of nuclear plant machinery and auxiliary equipment that supports NAVAL Reactors
  • 2. Extensive understanding of the theory and operation of a steam power plant
  • 3. Performed detailed work in nuclear propulsion plants and power generation systems
  • 4. Comprehensive understanding of a pressurized-water Naval nuclear power plant, including reactor core nuclear principles, heat transfer and fluid systems, plant chemistry and materials, mechanical and electrical systems, and radiological control
  • 5. Performed thorough maintenance on the electronic systems that make the nuclear reactor on Navy ships run
  • 6. Advanced understanding of shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages.
  • 7. Must have an extensive understanding of electrical theory. (i.e. DC, AC, Motors)
  • 8. Has expertise knowledge of electrical components and schematic symbols in a system.
  • 9. Must be highly competent in reading and utilizing test procedures and work documents.
  • 10. Work independently with proper instruction.
  • 11. The candidate should have extensive knowledge in and leading a small team of 2 or more employees
  • 12. Proficient in using extensive electrical meters and test instruments (volt-ohm meter, clamp-on ammeter, insulation resistance testers, phase rotation tester, meggers, etc.).
  • 13. Must be proficient in verify circuit continuity using applicable drawings, meters, and test equipment (e.g wire check phones)
  • 14. An intermediate/advanced understanding of a ship’s power distribution system
  • 15. Must be knowledgeable in lockout/tag out and hazardous energy control procedures.
  • 16. Test and inspect low, medium, and high-voltage cable installations.
  • 17. Ability to troubleshoot electrical performance deficiencies (e.g. ground fault, motor circuits, power circuits)
  • 18. Proficient in reading schematics and determine the cause of the fault in the system drawings and components.
  • 19. Proficient in the use of extensive electrician hand tools (i.e. Pliers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, connector crimping tools, etc.)
  • 20. Physically able to climb vertical and inclined stairs and ladders, crawl, bend, stoop, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.

Special consideration for applicants with following documented qualifications:

  • Confined space trained in accordance with OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B.
  • Hazard communication trained in accordance with OSHA Standard 29CFR 1915.1200 (1910.1200) (h) – (1) through (3) (iv).
  • Respirator trained and qualified. A Respirator Medical Clearance Examination as required by a Physician. The Respirator Training and Fit Testing will meet the requirements of Standard 29CFR1910.134 and each individual shall be trained in a negative-pressure type respirator, MSA COMFO CLASSIC. Our client requires the use of a MSA COMFO CLASSIC Respirator only (approximate weight 12 oz.). Daily use of respirator may occur.
  • Fall Protection/4-D Body Harness-Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines-Beam Clamp trained and qualified in accordance with the following OSHA Regulations; 29CFR1915.159, 29CFR1915.71 (j) (3), 29CFR1915.73 (d), and 29CFR1915.77 (c). Our client highly recommends the vest-donning type of body harness instead of the step-into-type body harness, with D-Ring in the back. Individuals must be trained (which includes having donned the body harness and demonstrated practical use of the vertical & horizontal lifelines and beam clamp) with the same type fall protection equipment that they are expected to wear on our client’s premises or on off-site work locations. Body Harness and Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines and Beam Clamps Systems shall comply with the requirements of ANSI Z359.1. NNS may require 60’ Self Retracting Lifelines that are Leading Edge compliant and a Quick Grab. Our client uses the FallTech DuraTech Edge SRL-LE. NNS uses the Miller Rope Grab. This rope grab must fit 5/16” carbon steel wire rope.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) training in accordance with OSHA Standards 29CFR 1915 Subpart I and Hearing Conservation 29CFR 1910.95 (i) (j) (k) (l).
  • Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses must meet the requirements of ANSI Z87, with permanently attached side shields.

Required Safety Training / Qualifications:

TASC Technical Services will provide employees who have completed the following safety training and /or medical clearance and provide documentation (copy of training, records, medical clearances, etc.) on Company Letterhead to our client’s Environmental, Health and Safety Department (O27) for review and approval prior to assignment of employees to work.

  • PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.
