Summary

The University of Michigan Library in Ann Arbor is one of the world's largest academic research libraries and serves a vibrant university community of 19 schools and colleges with a vision to serve humanity as the defining public institution. The library's mission is to support, enhance, and collaborate in the instructional, research, and service activities of faculty, students, and staff and contribute to the common good by collecting, organizing, preserving, communicating, sharing, and creating the record of human knowledge.

The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Access and Fulfillment provides strategic and administrative leadership for the library's evolving portfolio of interdependent service areas that provide access to collections, information services, and spaces. As the AUL, you will lead a team of 3 directors who oversee our Physical Collections and Access, Document Delivery, and Circulation and Access Services and Divisional Libraries. These departments work collaboratively to steward the library's physical materials across library buildings and shelving facilities; ensure materials delivery and access; facilitate access to University of Michigan (U-M) and borrowed collections through customized delivery, including scanning and electronic delivery options; and provide user-facing guidance and access through in-person information service points and materials pick-up locations. With your leadership, the Access and Fulfillment Division maintains responsibility for the circulation and management of over 7 million physical volumes and stewards over 810,000 square feet of space across libraries and shelving facilities to meet the needs of U-M's campus-based communities of over 50,000 students and almost 8,000 faculty.

You will report to the Dean of Libraries and serve as a member of the Library Administration team, working in close collaboration with the 5 other AULs, 4 functional directors and teams, the Associate Dean, and the Dean. As a member of the Library Administration team, you will contribute to the aligned and collaborative work of planning for library services, operations, and resource allocation. Your divisional leadership responsibilities include service development and sustainability, and guidance for the work of the division, with specific attention to operations, policies, budgets, communication, training, and professional activities.

We are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and encourage our employees to incorporate their diverse backgrounds, skills, and life experiences into their work. More information can be found in our Diversity Strategic Plan.
