Associate General Counsel- Benefits Practice Group

Our client is a publicly traded, Texas- based B2B services provider searching for a benefits attorney. This newly created Associate General Counsel position is within the Benefits Practice Group and will focus on health and welfare plans. The company is consistently ranked as a “best place to work” by several publications.

Responsibilities:

-Provides advice and counsel on design, maintenance and administration of welfare benefit plans ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements (including all applicable IRC, ERISA, PPACA, COBRA, HIPAA and USERRA requirements) for plans, including but not limited to various types of cafeteria plans, group health plans, life insurance and disability plans, adoption assistance plans, transportation assistance plans and educational assistance plans.

• Drafts and reviews group health, welfare and Section 125 plan documents.

• Assists Benefits Department on compliance and administrative matters involving group health, welfare, Section 125 plans and other Company sponsored or offered non-retirement related plans or programs.

• Provides legal advice to departments monitoring compliance with applicable federal and state benefits and tax laws.

Requirements:

-J.D. and current active admission to bar of one U.S. state

-7+ years legal experience, primarily in health and welfare benefits

-Formal training as a Benefits/ERISA attorney

-3 days per week in office; no relocation benefits
