Master Halco, North America’s leading manufacturer/distributor of fencing, decking, railing, outside structures, and perimeter security products is seeking an experienced Assistant Production Manager in Salt Lake City.

This position works under the supervision of the production manager and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the manufacturing process.

The Assistant Production Manager monitors production of goods, ensures accuracy, quality and costing of orders are accurate while providing administrative support to the production staff.

Experience with lean manufacturing methods and continuous improvement are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Production Manager.
  • Assist the Production Manager in supervising and coordinating all activities of workforce in very high-speed and dynamic operation.
  • Responsible to hire, manage, and coach manufacturing team members.
  • Assist the Production Manager with management and execution of production schedules and timesheets.
  • Verify production, cost targets and design parameters meet specifications, drawings, procedures, quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Appointing labor and purchasing stock toward the smooth running of the production process.
  • Preparing cost estimates for materials and equipment related to maintenance and innovation.
  • Overseeing quality control throughout the production process.
  • Ensuring that production is completed before deadlines.
  • Liaising and coordinating production with other departments.
  • Monitor and audit the documentation of gate inspection methods. Assist in creating and deploying Inspection Record Sheets.
  • Enforce time and attendance program.
  • Perform other duties as required by Management.


Lean Methods

  • Execute assigned Lean Manufacturing methods in operations (such as continuous improvement processes, set up reduction, single piece flow, inventory reduction, Kanban & Poka-yoke systems, waste elimination, employee development, 5S housekeeping practices, etc.).
  • Develop weld sample boards, mockups and deploy to shops.
  • Assist in Facilitating employee development programs essential to world class performance (team building, fabricating, and machining, blueprint reading, custom, proprietary and engineered gate standards etc.).
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.


Coordination with Engineering

  • Review drawings and specifications to assure compliance with design, safety, and testing requirements. Interpret specifications, blueprints, sketches, and work orders to employees.
  • Feedback to Engineering to improve proprietary and engineered gate drawings (accuracy, clarity, proper weld symbols, etc.).
  • Assist in developing Quality Control programs and inspection practices for proprietary/custom gates and gate hardware as needed (in coordination with Engineering and Purchasing).
  • Audit product quality (manufactured and purchased items). Document and establish corrective actions as required.
  • Develop & implement maintenance guidelines specific to fabrication operations.
  • Associate degree in manufacturing/production or previous experience working in a related industry.
  • Ability to supervise production teams confidently and proactively.
  • Exceptional analytical ability toward solving production related concerns.
  • Knowledge of procuring materials, equipment, and labor needed throughout the production process.
  • Proficiency in quality control, managing budgets, and production costing.
  • Competence with computer-based administration, record-keeping, and procurement systems.
  • Ability to work independently under the Production Manager, and as part of a production team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills toward managing human resources and liaising with other departments.
  • Availability to work extended hours to meet deadlines, when necessary.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Familiarity of AWS Welding Codes and welding blueprint terminology and symbols.
  • Very desirable to have prior experience working with typical machine-shop equipment (cut-off, plasm/waterjet/laser cutting, mills, engine lathes, drills, routers, saws, overhead cranes, etc.). CNC knowledge a plus.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP system use. Working ability in all MS Office products. AutoCAD & Inventor a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Position requires routine plant floor activity in a non-climate-controlled environment.
