The Position

The National Women’s Law Center seeks an Assistant to provide administrative and systems support to the Vice President of Education & Workplace Justice and the broader Education & Workplace Justice team. The Assistant supports the administrative functions of the team’s programmatic work, which includes multi-faceted advocacy to enable the success of women and girls in school and at work, with a particular focus on addressing barriers faced by women and girls of color, women in low-paid jobs, and LGBTQI+ individuals.

This is a full-time, exempt position of 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and logistical support for the Vice President for Education & Workplace Justice and the broader team, including proactive calendar management; coordination of calls/emails, travel, and meeting logistics; processing of invoices and expense reports and expediting contracts through the internal review and approval process.
  • Assists with organization, preparation, and execution of conferences, events, and meetings.
  • Prepares correspondence and provides support for legislative communications and outreach.
  • Assists in responding to inquiries and requests for information from external parties regarding education and workplace justice issues.
  • Identifies and implements systems to keep team files and databases up to date and organized.
  • Creates and maintains legislative and regulatory tracking systems.
  • Assists with formatting and updating Education & Workplace Justice resources such as fact sheets and other items for distribution.
  • Conducts research on workplace and education issues and drafting accompanying materials, including blog posts for NWLC’s website and occasional fact sheets.
  • As needed, provides other program and administrative support to the team or NWLC.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong office skills including attention to detail, proofreading, and excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete work independently;
  • Flexibility, good judgment and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks in an effective manner;
  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including experience scheduling meetings in Outlook and managing spreadsheets in Excel;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team setting and to manage projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color in their approach to work.


Additional Preferred Skills And Knowledge

  • Experience in an administrative capacity for a senior executive, preferably at a non-profit organization or related field;
  • A college degree or at least two years’ college;
  • Experience with InDesign and WordPress; and
  • Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently.


Key Relations

The Assistant will report directly to the Vice President for Education & Workplace Justice and will participate in a variety of projects managed by other members of the Education & Workplace Justice team.

Compensation & Benefits

A salary within the range of $62,116 - $74,793 will be provided to the successful candidate, consistent with the National Women’s Law Center’s compensation framework, which is a scale based on relevant work experience. The successful candidate’s salary within this range will be determined by the number of years of relevant experience they bring to the role.

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package and four weeks of annual vacation.

NWLC is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. at our new office at 1350 Eye Street N.W.  This role is based in D.C. and will be eligible for some telework while also being expected to work in person on a regular basis. The successful candidate will need to live in or relocate to the DMV (broadly defined as DC, Maryland, or Virginia).

The first 90 days of employment will be considered a probationary period.

Classification

NWLC recognizes a staff bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in NWLC’s bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
