Overview: The Angeles Chorale is seeking a collaborative, engaging, professional, dynamic Artistic Director to serve this 50 year organization in continuing choral excellence. The Artistic Director is responsible for the musical leadership and artistic direction including but not limited to, programming, rehearsals, performances, and recruitment. Along with serving as the conductor, the Artistic Director is responsible for collaboration with all musical and operations staff and reports to the Board of Directors on artistic, musical and outreach activities. This organization is located in Los Angeles, CA and performs and rehearses predominately in Westwood and Pasadena.
Position Details:
Independent contractor
Preparation and direction of all scheduled annual Angeles Chorale rehearsals, dress rehearsals and concert performances
Selection of repertoire and curation of musical elements for Angeles Chorale season in partnership with Board of Directors and Artistic Leadership
Negotiation and selection of Chorale singers and recruitment as needed
Selection and securing of venues for the Chorale’s annual concerts in collaboration with Board of Directors and Artistic Leadership
Curation and maintenance of Chorale library
Be available for publicity interviews and marketing needs
Attend all regularly scheduled Board of Directors Meetings
Collaboration with Associate Conductor(s)
Supported by Operations Staff who handle administrative duties including but not limited to communications, scheduling, social media, membership outreach etc
Candidate Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education and/or significant experience in Choral Conducting and Artistic Leadership
Preferred: Master's degree or Doctorate in Choral Conducting or Music Education
5 years minimum experience working as a choral conductor in a musical educational organization, school chorale program or non-profit chorus
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in selection of repertoire appropriate to an adult chorus
Experience leading, rehearsing and recruiting orchestral instrumentalists, soloists and singers
Strong collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills
Evidence of the ability to meet deadlines and proactively develop long-range plans
Mindfulness of community and DEI initiatives
Passionate about building community and elevating the organization to new levels
