Position Summary

Job Summary

This Self-motivated, Innovative, And Dedicated Individual Will Be a Significant Source Of Technical Support. Products Are Self-clinching Fasteners Manufactured On Multi-spindle Screw Machines. The Application Engineer’s Role And Responsibilities Are:

  • Serve as the liaison between the Winston-Salem manufacturing plant and customers’ technical staff, sales representatives, and Field Application Engineers.
  • Process quotations promptly by estimating costs, creating customer drawings, and entering data into SalesForce and ERP.
  • Develop and coordinate strategic plans for diverse and unique product concepts and associated product testing.
  • Assist or conduct product and technical training for PennEngineering customers, representatives, and distributors.
  • Design for manufacturability is essential.

Essential Functions

  • Utilize prior experience, engineering principles, training, and knowledge in executing duties, particularly in solving customers’ problems.
  • Primarily responsible for quoting all unique products. Coordinate all application specifications or exceptions with customers and sales. Review requirements with Manufacturing Engineering, generate cost estimates, and create customer drawings. Submit estimates through SalesForce and enter routing into ERP.
  • Maintain a high technical competency in manufacturing unique products to meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. This includes, but is not limited to, metal forming and machining, plastic molding, finishing, and assembly.
  • The Applications Engineer must be able to communicate (both written and verbal) with Regional and Territory Managers, Sales Representatives, Distributors, Direct Customers, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality.
  • Performs all duties entirely in a professional manner and with minimal supervision.
  • Direct test programs to improve existing product lines, solve customer problems, or aid in developing unique products as necessary.
  • Make recommendations to the supervisor to improve product design, product manufacturability, quoting process, and productivity.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to use testing/measurement tools.
  • Visual acuity for detailed work.
  • Must be able to work in office and shop environment as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Entry-level to one-year Engineering design experience. The individual must be able to work and coordinate Engineering activities in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Computer literacy required; Excel, MS Office, and CAD (Pro-E/CREO) drawings.
  • Potential to develop strong organizational and presentation skills.
  • Proven project leadership ability and successful record of completing assignments.
  • Must possess strong hands-on skills with mechanical fasteners and their respective engineering properties, heat treating, and plating processes.
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally by air.
