Job Summary

Manages the operations of healthcare practices(s) to include fiscal, human resources and practice management operations.

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director of Cancer Services for the Peninsula Region, the Administrative Director will work independently and have primary responsibility for the supervision of administrative staff and shared oversight for the medical assistant and nursing staff in both practices and infusion units at the Cancer Center Peninsula Region Practices. The Administrative Director will be responsible for supervising the operational, human resource, administrative and business functions of the Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Outpatient Infusion, and Cancer supportive services. The Administrative Director must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff and patients in a complex environment. The Administrative Director has daily oversight of the practice financial operations to ensure compliance with existing funds flow model and allocation of expense. The Administrative Director also works on a regular basis with leadership in the Departments of; Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Medicine, Psychiatry, Pathology, Radiology, Infusion Services, Periop, Sterile processing and specific inpatient units where breast surgery patients are admitted to ensure practice operations are meeting departmental objectives.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical, and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost centers, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent combination of experience/training
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience with demonstrated progressive leadership; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working and managing in an ambulatory care setting
  • Experience working in cancer services
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Clinic/center management experience, with progressive expertise in practice management, scheduling, customer-service methods, incident reporting, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and information technology.
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate and delegate work functions efficiently.
  • Demonstrated managerial skills and human resources management knowledge, including staff deployment, resource utilization, budgeting and financial management, quality improvement, and program planning and implementation.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to convey complex information, instructions, and guidelines in a clear, concise, and specific manner, and to influence and persuade all levels of staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Lean Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
  • Experience in an academic medical center setting
  • Experience supervising in a union environment
