Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Instructional Assistant Professor or Instructional Associate Professor for Multimedia Design

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) non-tenure track, Instructional Assistant or Instructional Associate Professor (depending on qualifications) faculty position focusing on multimedia design, user interface design, and emerging creative technologies with a full-time nine-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2024. The school and the Technical Arts and Interactive Media (TAIM) Section seek an individual who demonstrates expertise in the interdisciplinary and technology-driven creative field of multimedia. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in time-based media, interactive design, and web design. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of courses in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in BS, MS, and MFA in Visualization.

The Technical Art and Interactive Media Section of the School seeks candidates with expertise in multimedia design and emerging creative technologies, and who demonstrate proficiency with the theory, state-of-the-art tools, processes, methodologies, and practices in such areas as:

  • Interactive multimedia design,
  • UI/UX, mobile applications
  • Immersive media design
  • Web design
  • Foundational design practice


Candidates are expected to develop and maintain a strong interdisciplinary collaboration record, teach undergraduate and graduate level curriculum in multimedia design-related courses, develop, and implement new curriculum pertaining to the PVFA School programs, particularly in the area of Multimedia Design and Development and Design Communication, and contribute to academic service.

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a School within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with more than 70 faculty and 30 staff members with a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The school was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the school with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. A Master level degree and significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or a related field is required for an Instructional Assistant or Associate Instructional Professor. A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in design, multimedia design, digital media design, user interface design, media art, or a related area is preferred, along with relevant academic and professional experience. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: multimedia design, motion graphics, web design, mobile app design, user interface/experience design, augmented and virtual reality, and other digital media. They should also be able to teach design studio courses. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Candidates seeking the rank of instructional associate professor must also:

  • Have developed new courses in related areas.
  • Have demonstrated students’ success.
  • Have active and significant engagement in the profession through conference organizing committees or program committees.
  • Be actively engaged in professional organizations, or have industry experience
