Summary Description:

The 3D Shop Supervisor provides technical support to the faculty and students in the Art Department at Colorado College. Our program emphasizes technical skill, creative problem solving and critical thinking with in a liberal arts context.

Anticipated Salary Range: $22.30 to $26.75 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain 3-D workshop, classrooms and equipment.
  • Provide technical support in analog and digital fabrication processes to faculty and students in studio coursework and research projects.
  • Train students, faculty and visitors in the safe use of tools and equipment; offer technical workshops for senior Art majors.
  • Order, retrieve and stock/manage materials and supplies for 3D workshop and 3D studio courses.
  • Order, assemble, install and/or design and build studio furniture and equipment.
  • Manage budgets for 3D workshop and 3D classes and reconcile expenditures.
  • Hire, train and supervise student shop monitors.
  • Assist with student group exhibitions and senior thesis projects and track material costs by project.
  • Interface with Campus Facilities to realize improvements in 3D workshop and classrooms.
  • Drive College vehicles on fieldtrips and make local trips to source materials and equipment.
  • Foster and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workshop and learning environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in the arts or trades; minimum two years of experience with wood, steel, clay, plaster, stone, foundry, digital modeling, drafting & fabrication, and/or related processes; knowledge and ability to operate and maintain machines, tools and equipment; ability to train students and faculty in the safe use of shop equipment through demonstrations and workshops; a willingness to learn new processes and equipment through professional development opportunities; strong organizational skills; strong supervisory skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to develop positive relationships with people from different cultural and technical backgrounds; ability to manage a shop budget; sound judgement and the ability to think critically and problem-solve in a timely way; excellent social skills and collaborative skills; knowledge of safety procedures including MSDS and chemical and solvent safety measures; moderate physical effort required, lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.; some prolonged standing, good finger and wrist dexterity, hand/eye coordination and vision/hearing; some exposure to noisy or dusty conditions. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado Colleges motor vehicle insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in relevant position; first aid training.
