“Patrick has been my direct line manager during my tenure as the Consulting Marketing Manager in the Advisory Services group at Moss Adams. Working with Patrick has been refreshing and enjoyable. His leadership shows that he genuinely cares about his team, their growth and aiding them to perform at their best. Patrick’s ability to identify growth strategies for several service lines simultaneously allowed for the advisory consulting branch to streamline our marketing efforts and assess our ROI. Patrick is an extraordinary marketing professional and exceptional people manager. I’d welcome the opportunity to work with him again and recommend him as a marketing professional.”

What are some effective strategies for building your brand while still having time for your personal life?
We often invest a lot of effort trying to understand and anticipate who our competition is and what they’re doing. While it’s important to identify who you’re competing against and why, it’s more important to radically differentiate yourself and focus on delivering wow and delight for your customers. Do this better than anyone and your competition becomes less relevant. Price becomes less relevant. Duke Stump espouses an interesting notion that “the concept of competition is an archaic thought.” By setting yourself apart from everyone else you can define your niche and become the only choice. This is a simple concept but not easy. Invest time here to get clear on this and the rewards will follow.

What are some effective strategies for building your brand while still having time for your personal life?
Building your brand is a marathon. You need to be consistent and you need to pace yourself. You can’t rush it. And once you’ve defined your brand, stay the course. You can pivot how you execute and what and how you deliver. But your core should remain constant. People need a way to think of you and remember you when they need X. To earn their trust and a place in their mind requires consistency over time. Going strong at launch, burning out and going dark will not get you to your goals. Think slow and steady when it comes to your brand. Think fast when it comes to delivering a great customer experience.

What are some effective strategies for building your brand while still having time for your personal life?
The foundation for a strong brand is knowing what you stand for and being able to articulate that succinctly. You have to choose your tribe; you can’t be all things to all people. Think about your why, then your how and your what. Your why remains consistent while your what may evolve over time. Once you know this, you’ll have the seeds of differentiation. Finish this sentence (courtesy of Zag): Our brand is the only ___ that ___. Spend some time with this, internalize it. It will inform your identity and how you talk about yourself. The other key is to consistently show up and deliver on the promise you make.
