The lack of understanding on both ends of the spectrum re: Country of Origin bans highlight a larger problem that we have in Western political dialogue - it also creates misunderstandings about #NDAA #blueUAS and #GreenUAS that has prevented a lot of progress. In the short term, we need the *commercial* market adoption of UAS (no matter where from) to help fuel the industry for Western firms. Ban em - eventually, but not until we have viable and commercially available alternatives.

These particles can persist for decades, significantly contributing to ozone layer depletion. Key takeaway: The demise of satellites isn't just space junk; it’s a looming environmental threat. 2️⃣ 📈🌌 Aluminum Oxide Accumulation 🌌📈 In 2022, the reentry of satellites injected approximately 17 metric tons of aluminum oxides into the atmosphere, marking a 29.5% increase from natural levels. With mega-constellations, this could surge to 360 metric tons per year. The long-term buildup of these particles could have severe implications for stratospheric ozone health. 3️⃣ 🚀🔬 Simulation Insights and Future Concerns🔬🚀 This study is the first to use atomic-scale molecular dynamics to simulate the high-temperature aluminum ablation of satellites. I am not a current drone pilot, but I've become increasingly interested in it since the start of the Ukraine war. The Senate is holding a vote on the NDAA today and this is part of that bill. “Countering CCP Drones Act” (HR 2864) could pass and ban the only high quality drone sold to the US consumer market. I've been learning about types of drones, transmitters, headsets, builds and mods. It started as watching FPV (First person view) flights, moved to product reviews and then build videos. That's my level of knowledge. In that time, I've found that DJI is the premier (by a lot) commercial and consumer drone maker in the world. They are the entry for most recreational drone pilots. This all started here before the US recognized that the PRC is positioning themselves as an adversary, and DJI built a relatively benign to positive reputation. That is solid now and the lack of viable competitors is certainly a factor. They also have decent social media capabilities. So their customer base is standing up for them. People love flying their drones, and don't want to give it up! That's totally understandable too. The difficulty here is that drone piloting is a critical, yet unrecognized skill. Ukranian pilots have shown just how powerful this skill can be. It is also a way for young people to make money. There are entire industries rising from various aspects of drone piloting. DJI is a legitimate threat due to their CCP ties, the sending of data back to China, to include high res images of areas where the drones fly and data it accesses through the phone app. But we need a US or at least a friendly company to step in to supplant DJI for consumer use, not only commercial. And then there's the FAA and its unfriendly attitude towards drones, but that's a rant for another day...

The number one mistake I see technical founders make when pitching: (This simple fix goes a long way.) "We got some fancy new technology that we plan on integrating into multiple verticals; it will take over almost any industry, its filled with the latest AI and ML vision systems and the newest powerhouse of complex quantum computing. " See that ^ Boring; it doesn't say anything. Keep it simple when you explain your technology. Make it relatable if possible. If it is brand new, like freaking cutting-edge new technology, Chances are that you are really smart and that what you do is semi-complex. Try to pitch it so that a 12-year-old can understand it. That goes a long way. The same goes for what you want to say on your slides, many founders stack the slides with data and do the same when they pitch. Start by saying if I only had 30 seconds to explain each slide, what would be the sentence that would be the most concise and compelling? Next time you pitch, make it simple, precise, and sharp! This goes for many other things, but in general, it is a challenge I see with technical founders, especially. [Select Committee Hearing on Drones] Edited out the relevant drone bits. I actually like the idea of taxing Chinese drones and using that as a subsidy for American made ones. Why? At least there's still competition and American manufacturers continue to experience innovation from the Chinese which will lead them to improve their own products. Otherwise America risk falling even further behind. One thing I notice is that somehow US government seems to feel public safety is part of national security but regular public officers dont think so. Contrary to what you may be hearing from other manufacturers and folks on social media, no DJI ban has been enacted by the U.S. government. Congress does, however, have a couple pieces of paper on a desk somewhere that would, if it makes it up the huge hill it would have to climb, prevent new FCC IDs from being issued to new DJI products. The last I heard, it was one of over 1,000 amendments that members of Congress are trying to add to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025. Some of those amendments include restrictions on firewalls, modems, routers, and tons of other devices you are using right now. I doubt you're ripping those out and replacing them and there's no need to panic and do the same with your DJI or Chinese-made drones. If you like them, keep using them to make your job, your life, and your neighbor's life safer and better. Let me say again, THERE IS NO DJI BAN. Nothing has been voted on, enacted, signed into law, etc. It's simply been proposed by lawmakers who are clearly misinformed. It is our job, those of us in the industry who use this technology, to educate them on why legislation like the Countering CCP Drones Act would devastate American drone operators and do nothing to help our American drone manufacturers innovate. It stifles the innovation at arguably one of those most innovative eras in our industry. A brilliant take on the 'Countering #CCP #Drones Act and related #legislation". Let me expand on the potential secondary and tertiary impacts: 1) Enables the recalibration of the 'product parity gap' between #platforms within the #drone #industry - by removing the top two market leaders (DJI and Autel Robotics) and their related technology. But 'lowering the bar has consequences'. Remember: it's 100x easier to build a better Skydio X10 than a DJI M350... and there are already better platforms better suited for specific workflows than X10, specifically #mapping #surveying and/or #inspection made by folks like Freefly Systems, Inspired Flight Technologies Inc., Wingtra, Quantum-Systems Inc., Arcsky and Skyfront BTW, #DFR is up for grabs and will get a bit more crowded. 2) Changes the Western #industrialbase by creating two camps: ‘#opensource sandbox' and the 'closed source Shed', with the former having a true 'all boats rise with the ride' ethos while the latter only benefitting themselves. Example: an order of 10k+ #suas of an open-source compatible vendor will create a 'trickle down effect' where the OEM with be required to scale in a way that enables 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐀𝐋𝐋. Conversely, Skydio winning the next #SRR likely won't give the #blueUAS OEMs access to that 'Skydio Link' that Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the #taxpayer paid for... 3) Massive need for firms (like UAS Nexus) that are ideally positioned to enable end-users and software OEMs the ability to seamlessly transition from DJI to #NDAA - compliant solutions. These firms (often #integrators) have the ability to develop custom #software and #hardware at or exceeding the level of most existing OEMs... and this legislation will eventually force #competition between them and their vehicle OEM customers. 4 and most #important) Undermines the democratic, capitalist, and #freemarket #values that make #America the best place on Earth. Some of you may find it appropriate to erode Western values in lieu of security, I am not one of them. As you know, many great people have died to preserve said values... Satellite imagery confirms a Russian strategic early warning radar site in the southwestern end of the country was substantially damaged in a reported Ukrainian drone attack earlier this week. This looks to be a first-of-its-kind attack on a site linked to Russia’s general strategic defense. As such, it points to a new and worrisome dimension to the conflict, especially when it comes to the potential use of nuclear weapons…. (Satellite imagery) shows severe damage to both structures housing the Voronezh-DMs at Armavir. There is also clear evidence of multiple hits on the radar buildings. …(The) radar arrays are generally very sensitive and fragile systems, and even relatively limited damage can result in a “mission kill,” rendering them inoperable for an extended period of time…. Russia’s early warning network is part of the country’s broader nuclear deterrent posture. “The conditions specifying the possibility of nuclear weapons use by the Russian Federation” include any “attack by [an] adversary against critical governmental or military sites of the Russian Federation, disruption of which would undermine nuclear forces response actions,” according to the Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence the Kremlin put out two years ago. All of this follows the start of tactical nuclear drills by Russian forces in the country’s Southern Military District, which borders Ukraine, on Tuesday. Strike On Russian Strategic Early Warning Radar Site Is A Big Deal, The Warzone It’s not like Ukraine bought American long-range missiles and the US has restricted their use. The CIA tells Zelensky to demand American missiles provided at no cost, shipped to Ukraine by the USA, prepared and fired by American contractors using intel provided by the CIA to hit targets in Russia that have little involvement in the war. Russian President Vladimir Putin once described the United States as “A madman with a knife.” This latest incident helps to verify that claim.
