Code.org believes computer science should be part of core curriculum, alongside other courses such as biology, chemistry or algebra. As a volunteer for the Hour of Code I will be presenting to local area elementary school students in their classroom. I will share my experience in computer science, discuss how the problems of the future will be solved with coding and help them learn the tutorials developed by the Hour of Code Program. The goal of my participation is to inspire at least one student to learn and embrace coding.

  • Business of Compliance Transformation

    -

While compliance and regulatory risks continue to grow, compliance functions are typically managed as a cost center, and given a fixed operating budget. As a result, they traditionally use low-cost tools (e.g., e-mail and spreadsheets) and manual processes to manage their efforts. This approach is unable to address every risk, so compliance teams prioritize the risks, and address as much as possible.

Unfortunately, risks are growing faster than the resources, so compliance teams need to redefine the “Business of Compliance” to streamline the processes, automate where possible, and improve their visibility and insight to be more agile.

The ServiceNow Inspire Team partnered with Allianz Life, a large financial services company, to transform the way they manage the “Business of Compliance”

The engagement included the following key components:

-Strategic Roadmap: The vision, strategic drivers and business outcomes
-Strategic Architecture: The capabilities needed to achieve the business outcomes
-Workstreams: Implementation approach accounting for business and technical constraints
-Business Case: Analysis of the projected benefits and costs to achieve
-Innovation: Prototype of a solution to modernize compliance management
-Realization: Production application to manage their Compliance processes

The results encompassed the following benefits:

-Increased efficiency and productivity from ITSM and compliance staff
-Cost reduction and risk avoidance through streamlined agent risk assessment process
-Flattening of hiring requirements despite growth in the business
-Ability to align business goals with technical capabilities in ITSM, compliance, and beyond

The ability to upgrade was tested on a Service Pack rollout which improved the implementation time by over 1000%. The Service Management solution handles over 300,000 tickets annually and services over 13,000 global customers.

  • Virtual Service Provisioning

    -

Prior to the advent of cloud and IaaS, this project proved using a pure software based solution that it was possible to provision and manage virtual services dynamically and via on demand requests through a service catalog. We were able to provision from bare metal the VMWare ESX hypervisor and subsequently guest virtual machines into those ESX hosts. Provisioning automatically generated change control records as well as configuration items in the CMDB. Once in the CMDB we could dynamically…
