Broadcom raised its annual forecast for revenue from chips that help in artificial intelligence work by 10% on Wednesday, and announced a stock split to take advantage of a rally in its shares this year. Broadcom manufactures advanced networking chips that help move around vast amounts of data used by AI applications such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, making it a beneficiary of businesses heavily investing in the boom. Shares of the Palo Alto, California-based chipmaker surged 12% in extended trading. The company, which has seen its stock rally more than 30% so far this year, after almost doubling in 2023, will carry out a 10-for-1 forward stock split, in a bid to make its shares more affordable for retail investors. The technology world seems to be more engaged and prepared for new AI model releases than just a few months ago. With Meta releasing the Llama 3 model just today, I've seen performance results and readiness for platforms from Intel Corporation and Qualcomm. AMD highlighted its partnership, but hasn't showed specifics as yet. Intel has the most robust testing so far, showing results on Gaudi 2, Xeon, Core Ultra integrated graphics and Arc A770 discrete GPU: https://lnkd.in/gjB85SgQ Snapdragon says that tools "will be available" to run Llama 3 on its platforms, just not posted on their AI Hub yet: https://lnkd.in/gEqCfbqn

Interesting move and appears a win/win for both companies. That said, may take awhile to implement. I've toured many HPC & AI and enterprise computing datacenters, as well as a number of cryptomining facilities, and the infrastructure is starkly different. HPC & AI datacenters are typically air conditioned, raised floor rooms with direct liquid cooling to chip and high speed (e.g. InfiniBand) interconnect. This is very, very different from the shoeboxes on shelves model, often in former warehouse buildings, with a simple Ethernet connection to the outside world. https://lnkd.in/g-GFNCZ4

I’ve always admired Bill Joy, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems along with Vinod Khosla, Scott McNealy, and Andy Bechtolsheim. He was instrumental in the development of a number of technologies that helped shape modern day computing infrastructure and the internet itself. In particular, Bill's 1999 proposed taxonomy of the internet, the "Six Webs," has always resonated with me. As the team at Tools for Humanity creates the tools we need to prepare for the age of AI, we need to start thinking about a seventh web: the Human Web. Speaking at the Vision conference, Intel Senior Vice President Sachin Katti remarked, "in the future, we will have unicorn startups with three employees". He also shared his vision of three #AI eras: - the era of "co-pilots" (we are in it now) - followed by the era of autonomous #agents - and then the era of AI functions, when agents cooperate together to functionally replace entire company departments. The author of the article expresses surprise: it's still surprising to see a company like Intel Corporation be so open about AI taking over the roles traditionally filled by people. Frankly, it's not clear why. If this person had minimal experience with modern summarizers and generative tools, he would have realized that, for example, a similar article on the available video presentation, AI will write better than him and in any given style: a perfect example of an easily and usefully replaceable employee 🙃

Broadcom Further Streamlines VMware, Omnissa is Born TL;DR - Broadcom's End-User Computing (EUC) Division has been sold to KKR for $4 billion, becoming a standalone company called Omnissa. This move aligns with Broadcom's strategy to focus on the private cloud market by divesting non-core assets. The transition, led by former VMware management, aims to innovate and expand Omnissa's digital workspace solutions, including Workspace ONE and Horizon. Exceeded expectations - $26 billion for the Quarter! #Nvidia Forecast Shatters Estimates as #AI Boom Stays Strong - ‘We are poised for our next wave of growth,’ CEO says - Shares gain in late trading following quarterly report In the fiscal first quarter, Nvidia’s revenue more than tripled to $26 billion. Excluding certain items, profit was $6.12 a share. Analysts had predicted sales of about $24.7 billion and earnings of $5.65 a share. Nvidia’s #datacenter division — now by far its largest source of sales — generated $22.6 billion of revenue. #Gaming #chips provided $2.6 billion. Analysts had given targets of $21 billion for the data-center unit and $2.6 billion for gaming.
