How do you handle negotiating salary and benefits when applying for jobs online?
Investigate industry standards and comparable salaries for the role in your geographic area. This will show your expectations are based on data. Articulate how your skills, experience, and potential will contribute to the company’s success. Employers are often willing to pay more for candidates who can directly impact their bottom line. Negotiations are a discussion, not a confrontation. Maintain a positive and respectful tone. Remain open to discussing benefits, vacation, or other non-salary components of the compensation package. This flexibility can often lead to a better outcome. Consider the entire compensation package, not just the salary.

You’re in a job interview and the interviewer asks, “What makes you unique?
You won’t know the other candidates, so focus on what the employer seeks. Provide a specific example of how you solved a problem. For example, you may be in a field you did not train in, which would show your ability to learn and step outside your comfort zone. Always think about your top skills. Remember, there is no correct answer, and you cannot know what the employer wants to hear. They want to see if you are confident and can help them meet their needs.

What are the best practices for following up after a job interview?
If the hiring manager is considering you versus another candidate and you send a thank you email but the other person does not guess what might happen? Many recruiters have said they would offer the job to the person who sent a thank you note. This simple gesture does not take much effort but can show you appreciate their time and demonstrates basic politeness. It also allows you to reiterate your interest and follow up on something you learned about the job/company during the meeting.
