I have never considered the importance of minimizing layers and how that could maximize communication. While I have no management plans, I will broaden my audience when designing solutions for technical problems. Even if the additional person doesn’t help solve this problem, the learnings gained may enable them to solve the next problem.

Anything worth doing (economic value) likely involves a workflow, pipeline, feedback loop, etc. Simple back and forth chatting with AI can only do simple things. Frameworks like AutoGen and LangChain help solve the bigger problems... if you have an inventory of your processes and domain experts to build it.

I'm so incredibly excited to share something amazing I've created over the past few months, Writeprint.ai. If you've explored the amazing world of generative AI that tools like ChatGPT unlocks, you've learned that ChatGPT doesn't write like you. It sounds like.. ChatGPT. What if you could generate AI content that sounded like you wrote it? That's what Writeprint.ai unlocks. Upload some samples of your writing and Writeprint.ai will start generating content that sounds like these samples. It's super easy to add these samples and even easier to start generating content. While I haven't formally kicked this out to the public, I wanted to share it with you, my friends and family. If this sounds useful to you, I hope you'll give it a try. If you know someone that uses ChatGPT, I hope you'll share it with them. I also would love to have a conversation with anyone using ChatGPT to generate content to better understand how you're doing things. https://www.writeprint.ai

Pro-tip for those attempting to productionize gen-ai services based on text input and output: scrutinize the text input severely and relate that to the precise wording in the prompt. it is incredible *how* subjective text evaluation really is and I have learned just how *good* but subjective LLMs are. I find myself being confused about who's right in the evaluation: myself or the LLM! One thing stands out though: when I go back and read my prompt I often realize that the wording I used is actually not that clear, even though in everyday parlance another speaker *would seemingly know exactly what I was asking or saying*. It's a wild world.

This has incredible potential as a dev tool, but what interests me most is the built-in traceability... Connecting ideation to PRs is a slow and manual process. Devs are responsible for manually tying a code change to it's conception in issue tracking systems, which is error prone and not useful unless they follow strict standards. Do I put the ticket # in the commit or the PR message? Do I use the story or the sub-task? All of this would be fixed by integrating issue tracking into the IDE with a little bit of LLM help. Developers can jump right into solving the problem instead of managing traceability.

At 11 am ET today (June 5), I will be doing a talk with the systems and process guru, Aimee Accinno on her facebook profile, to go over custom GPTs and their use in generating social media posts in your voice, plus showing how to use live data and other cool things in GPTs. Come on by and join the discussion!

Another amazing talk at #Config2024 by product leader from Linear. I loved how Nan Yu tackled a fundamental product challenge: the org chart. "An organization that designs a system will produce a design whose structure is a copy of that org's communication structure." - Conway's Law This really hits home. You can’t just copy a team structure that worked for someone else without understanding why it was designed that way and if it fits your org's needs. Your team setup should mirror the product you want to create. Start with the product you want to build: - Define the scope: Set clear boundaries and conditions, like different skill sets. - Share resources: Let people move between teams as needed. - Adapt and evolve: Disband teams when they’re no longer necessary. https://lnkd.in/gXCKqqyB

I fear this level of engineering efforts is going to be lost, not because of AI, but because many engineers coming out of college are not having to deal with Assembly, C, and many low level frameworks. Sure there are hardware engineering amd low level programming degrees, but those are niche.... None the less this video is amazing watch on how engineers should be thinking to solve problems. No level of AI is going to solve these issues.

Protip: If you use a 3rd-party API in your app, check in frequently. APIs change. One of my favorite projects, my resume map (https://lnkd.in/g8zbx_H), was based on Mapbox's Javascript library and used Stamen's toner map. Stamen decided to shift their tile service to Stadia Maps. Mapbox decided to update its library and rebrand it as MapLibre. Ever break all the things? So, after a few quick updates, it's back online, just as pretty as it ever was. #map #maplibre #stamen #stadia #gis

About a month ago Noah Finberg put out a challenge to build a dynamic infographic on Domo using Canva. I finally knocked it out! I wanted to 1-up Noah's request and I built an super simple NO CODE option so now EVERYONE in the Domo community can use their marketing content from Canva inside their dashboards now! WATCH THIS DEMO if you are interested: https://lnkd.in/g3xEVCdW <- YOUTUBE VIDEO (w/ how to get image IDs)

Pet peeve on built-in product analytics… tools, that “allow” a user to generate summary charts and graphs without access to the underlying data. These features are impressive in a sales demo, but have little value to users unless they are directly tied to an operational use case. If I’m trying to assess how the product is being used —likely representing less than one percent of the overall businesses operational tasks—just give me the data so I can do my own analysis and build my own dashboards and reporting that integrate this product with the rest of the enterprise. There’s no need to slap a visualization on top of it. It just means more work for the analysts to navigate through someone else’s idea of what they thought the analysis would be to get to a place where they can download the raw data to excel. i’m not saying built-in analytics are bad, just that they need to serve the operational audience not the analytic audience who wants data, not visualization.

Sup fam!! Relationships are everything!! They're the core of your engineering platform. Your team's design docs, software patterns, pull requests, and GitOps workflows all need to pass through a complex network of relationships before becoming meaningful to stakeholders. Before that, they're just bytes sitting on Jeff Bezos' disks. How are your relationships doing? Which relationships need some light touching up? Which ones need some serious investment? How about that one person on that one team? How about on _your_ team? Are you tracking these gaps with the same effectiveness you're tracking tech debt? It takes an intentional effort to build meaningful connections and to show peers you're a stakeholder in _their_ success. It's worth your time -- not to mention you'll feel great!! Want to optimize your engineering platform? Start by investing in your relationships!
