There is a wide range of viewpoints regarding whether or not group health plans should cover weight loss drugs. We received an article from one of our online information resources titled “The old-fashioned weight loss method being embraced by insurers.” The article got my attention because a number of groups have inquired about whether or not to cover weight loss drugs.   In reading the article, however, the ‘old-fashioned’ weight loss method referred to was bariatric surgeries. This really surprised me because my view of the ‘old-fashioned’ weight loss method is diet and exercise. There are unintended consequences in cases where either weight loss drugs or bariatric surgeries are involved. In previous years, we had groups whereby bariatric surgeries were performed and ensuing complications ran up in six figure bills beyond the cost of the surgery alone.   More recently, we have a couple of groups who actually have participants using weight loss drugs. Some have told us that some of these participants have experienced difficult side effects from these drugs. Therefore, it still leads me to believe that the tried and true ‘old-fashioned’ weight loss method is still diet and exercise. That is just my opinion, but whenever tried as a lifestyle direction change, it seems to have worked with few if any detrimental side effects for a lot less money.   What do you think?

🚨 **Breaking News** 🚨 Injured workers need mental health attention: study I'm excited to share insights from a recent analysis by our team, featured on Axios. The study reveals that people overcoming physical workplace injuries may face behavioral health challenges, leading to longer absences from work. According to the analysis, early detection of mental health concerns among injured workers can significantly improve employee well-being and save companies money. Despite accounting for less than 3% of nearly 540,000 workers' compensation claims, cases involving behavioral health issues made up 35% of all costs. The study highlights the importance of addressing mental health challenges in the workplace. Employers are encouraged to consider paying up front for behavioral health resources, while insurers should continue to focus on educating claims representatives and nurse case managers. I'm very big into culture and being a fit to an organization culture. Each individual is different, and they bring their unique perspectives but the things that are common is what makes the culture and if a new team member has those common traits, it would be a win-win for both the organization and the employee. The composition presents offensive forms of motivation and alternatives to counter. Three most offensive forms: - Drive -by praise - Managers popping their heads into employees offices on the way to meetings and say " Great Job at the sales pipeline review". Or text a message "Sorry i was not able to catch you before i left. You did great" For managers, these looks positive. But to employees ( recipients), if can feel impersonal, and inadequate if these are the only forms of recognition. - Making stuff up - managers saying "I have got your back" ; I was telling the big boss what an amazing job you are doing". Made-up stories erode the employees trust in the manager. Employees know when their managers are being insincere or outright lying.. - Guilt gratitude - "You have no idea how much I appreciate this". "I owe you!". I dont know what I would have done if you had'nt gotten this to me today!".. These are when managers who feel guilty try to overcompensate with effusive expressions of appreciation.... Alternatives: - Ask for the story - Use " that was amazing. Tell me how you did it?" By this you are honouring the results as well as employee. - Contextualize gratitude - Tell employees that you appreciate their efforts not just because of how you benefit but also because of how the larger organisation benefits. -Acknowledge the cost - Acknowledging the challenges employees may have faced in accomplishing the results. This will make our gratitude more credible. Use the alternatives if you want to direct your good intentions into meanigful expressions of recognition.
