How can you encourage collaboration and creativity when communicating about innovation?
Ensure that every collaborator on the team has skills, competency, and availability of a wide range (and, ideally, a thorough representation across each team) of tools, models, and methods for the process. Most importantly, strongly encourage active vocalization -- especially when any individual may want (but be hesitant) to articulate a contradictory, "unpopular" opinion. This is the essence of Critical Thinking, and oftentimes -- depending on the org's culture -- this could be what facilitates success of utter failure, when led/inspired properly.

How can you encourage collaboration and creativity when communicating about innovation?
Consider conducting an assessment of each team member's (and leaders'/facilitators') creative thinking profile. One organization that offers insights here is called FourSight, which assesses not only individual creative inclinations, but also unique characteristics ("SWOTs," essentially) for each team or sub-team, based upon the portfolio makeup of their creative preferences/profiles. If you don't know much about FourSight (e.g. that it even exists, how to use it, what value/risk impact it has upon team-based innovation), then you certainly should learn more. It's not a perfect assessment, but it can add real, actionable value to your strategy...in many significant ways (optimizing skill/performance, reducing conflicts, filling gaps, etc.).

How can you encourage collaboration and creativity when communicating about innovation?
I'd start by first clarifying much more precisely the context. Who is the communicator? Who is the audience (what "clusters" or communities of personas are participating)? Which subgroups are expected to be collaborative and/or creative (i.e. what do/might we know about them; might any of their goals/styles be contradictory)? What is the time frame of collaboration? Who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the innovation? What sort of impact(s) are you expecting, for whom, and by when? Then you must make sure that everyone is on the same page with how Innovation is defined (rarely do any two definitions match), and that all other "rules of the game" are clear and agreeable to all. What biases are at hand? What resources available, etc.? ...

The Root Cause of Innovation: How Value-Driven Thinking Changes Everything You Do
self
I have written a book about “pure innovation,” which focuses on personal and societal issues, rather than a typically exclusive focus on technology and business. In this book I introduce several unique concepts, including Value-Driven Thinking™, The Eight States of the Innovative Mind™, and STEP™ Value-Creation Methodology. The Root Cause of Innovation: How Value-Driven Thinking Changes Everything was targeted for publication in early 2011, but put on hold because of my most recent book…
The Root Cause of Innovation: How Value-Driven Thinking Changes Everything was targeted for publication in early 2011, but put on hold because of my most recent book project (related to Cubie™). The book focuses on providing innovative approaches to creating value and solving problems in our personal lives, in our careers, as well as in society around us, discussing how innovation applies to a wide range of topics: our relationships, parenting, house & home, politics, education, civility, humor, art, psychology, and many other themes.
