Just a couple statistics from 2 firms that we help with automation. ~480 8879s transferred to a document manager from April 1 to April 15 for an 80-user firm. Assume 3 minutes per 8879, that is 1,440 minutes to be reallocated in those 2 weeks. ~3,800 source documents transferred to a document manager from February 1 to April 15 for a 7-user firm. Assume 2 minutes per source document, then that is 7,768 minutes reallocated. 2,400 minutes in a 40 hour work week, that is half a week during the 2 weeks before April 15 and 3 week over the 2.5 months of tax season respectively. This time was reallocated to other tasks that need a human touch. With tax season closed and firms decide that next year will be different, automation of tasks is the change to be enacted now, not the week before the next season. The pain is fresh, and the memory is recent. Write some notes and review it with your staff. Then take the step forward. The worst thing is to be paralyzed into doing nothing. What was clear from #ACTExpo 2024 is that the industry is facing headwinds as the TCO of fleet electrification is much higher than current ICE transportation.
