It's interesting the Apple are potentially delaying (I would say delay, rather than scrapping) the Apple Vision Pro 2 so that they can instead focus on an entry-level ~$1k-$1.5k model. I'd simply consider this to be an elongation of the product cycle, rather than a failure. As I've mentioned previously, Apple are trying to simultaneously get a number of stakeholders excited about their XR headsets: developers, consumers and distribution partners like telcos. The developers are interested, but consumers and distribution partners want something that they can afford. T-Mobile USA are currently offering Meta Quest 3s for $42-$54/month, much like you would a handset - that's the point when more telcos will be interested (and will be able to afford to be interested!). I think spatial video is going to be a massive selling point for those cheaper headsets. Shown is D2X RAN automation (Cloud) Datacenter with Local Edge Insertion of Geo-Targeted Data Content in a SFN underlay topology using D2X (RU) sites sectors shown inside a wider Area SFN topology. To achieve D2X multicast broadcast single frequency network (SFN) topology. Requires the same content data be emitted from multiple D2X sites using same resource blocks (RB) and symbols at the same time on the air interface and this produces coherent symbols. These coherent symbols are emitted from several D2X SFN transmit sites and when the RF signals arrive at receiver (UE) within cyclic prefix (CP) they appear as natural delay echoes of environment to receiver (UE) and the energy is used constructively. The SFN topology offers spatial diversity to help mitigate fading, shadowing and improve field strength inside overlapping signal contours from two or more SFN D2X transmit sites. There are two SFN topologies shown active, a wide area SFN topology which meets requirements coherent symbols (SFN). Also, shown is a SFN underlay topology area between three D2X sites. That has Geo-targeted local content data inserted in Cloud datacenter to the three D2X sites shown that produces coherent symbols. Depending on the use case intelligent RAN automation can drop / add content data in (N) number of resource blocks (RB) in cloud and that changes geographic size of the SFN underlay to target a use case dynamically. It should be appreciated for wide area SFN all same content is only sent once to D2X RU via eCPRI fronthaul which replicates for each sector. This Cloud disaggregated RAN flexibility only sends the local content data to the targeted D2X Sites RU via eCPRI with timing and control to insert in RU and route to correct Sector Antenna, this reduces fronthaul data traffic. GMS has several times provided ultra-low latency gDVE (ground, degraded visual environment) systems that allowed operators to see and drive in real time, using only cameras, DSP, and displays. The systems had to be super-high performance to avoid the sea sickness that comes from slight time differences between what the body feels and what the eyes/brain is processing. Big announcement yesterday from Meta, personally one that I predicted would happen. In PCs and smartphones, there are two dominant platforms and in XR, there are already two but Samsung, Google and Qualcomm already hinted they are working on something, so that could be a third. There was no way that Meta was going to scale their platform based on 1st party hardware and both Windows and Android have shown what happens when you allow 3rd parties to build innovative hardware around your software platform. There are many innovative hardware players out there building cool XR devices but they have all been lacking an ecosystem to make them succeed, so this will be good news for them. I guess the next question will be whether Meta will be like Microsoft with Windows or Google with Android, how much will they allow the hardware vendors to build their own experiences on top of Horizon OS? This has advantages and disadvantages and Android has both benefited from the innovation an more open approach brings but also suffered from the challenges that fragmentation can cause. So, let’s see how this develops, competition and choice is great for consumers and businesses, can’t wait to see what hardware OEMs do and look forward to the innovation curve in XR exploding! #XR #Meta #open

If there is one thing we learned from our benchmark study of mobile video gaming over 5G, it is that ALL THROUGHPUT IS NOT CREATED EQUAL! Instead, “little things” like the choice of the air interface (5G, LTE or mixed) used to deliver the video packets, the variability in the throughput, and the core network architecture that play a significant role. To put things into perspective, in our tests the network always supported far more physical layer throughput than required to support the most challenging video gaming session we tested, yet some networks performed at a sub-par level with far easier scenarios. Bandwidth wasn't the primary issue. Emil Olbrich and I tested a wide range of networks, including 5G FWA, 5G mmWave, 5G SA, 5G NSA, LTE-only, and Open RAN (DISH Network), not to mention Mediacom Communications 1 Gbps broadband cable for comparison purposes. We included simulated mobile video gaming sessions from 720p 60 fps (12 Mbps) to 1440p 120 fps (75 Mbps), with our analysis including a litany of gaming-related metrics and physical layer attributes. It wouldn't be an Signals Research Group - SRG Signals Ahead report if the results weren't based on quantitative data. For this study, we primarily collaborated with GameBench , who provided us with its Network Analysis Tool (NAT) client/server platform with the server portion of the platform hosted on a Google Cloud server in Council Bluffs, Iowa (in relative close proximity to our test locations). With NAT, we could measure the performance of the mobile video sessions as well as our interaction with the game (trigger squeezes, etc.). In a follow-on study, we'll flip the narrative and evaluate a range of 5G smartphones, gaming devices, and chipsets, to see who comes out on top against a common network configuration. Thanks also to Spirent Communications (Umetrix Data) and Accuver (XCAL and XCAP) for the use of their respective tools, which we also leveraged in this study. The company's journey is a testament to resilience, innovation, and strategic foresight. It has not been an overnight succcess - lots of effort and a vision! Jensen Huang and the Evolution of Nvidia: Key Milestones 1. D2X is new Multicast Broadcast RAN Architecture harmonized 5G NR(MBS) and aligned O-RAN Principles to bring Innovation Broadcast Spectrum. https://lnkd.in/eNK5Q7xb The physics of one-to-many broadcast permit Spatially Sectorized Single Frequency Network (SFN) Topologies with local content data insertion Edge (Cloud) inside wider area SFN. By Disaggregation (CU/DU) Cloud D2X the D2X Schedulers replace resource blocks (RB) in sectors to enable sectorized SFN where when required. This could be useful many purposes including first responders. The 5G first responder use case is excellent for 5G NR (MBS) based on a unicast framework with low latency (strength) and a single-cell topology for first responders’ group communications. When complemented by D2X with a larger service area SFN topology (strength), it can multicast common data video in a wider service area for first responders either at or in route to the emergency scene.
