The American Lung Association (ALA) requested an outside formal Information Technology assessment of the ALA National HQ and Field Association. The study was conducted on a pro-bono basis by a group of external IT executives, and incorporates the input of ALA’s VP, Data and Technology Division. The review’s objectives were threefold:
    1. Evaluate ALA IT in accordance with ALA’s vision, mission and objectives in three general areas: Process, Technology and People.
    2. Compare ALA’s current IT operations to state-of-the-art management practices.
    3. Make recommendations for improvement if necessary.

The analysis documented 35 findings which are divided into three areas of evaluation, Process, Technology, and People (the human elements). Conclusions and recommendations were made based on the analysis of the findings with the general criteria of ALA mission. Eight general conclusions were drawn with 13 documented specific prioritized recommendations made to identify both near-term and longer-term improvements.

The majority of the review team has known one another and worked together for the last 10 years in key leadership positions within the U.S. Navy and industry.
