Talking effectively about systems and system change is tricky. This short article sums up a key dilemma (overemphasizing individual choices vs. creating fatalism about systems), and outlines a path forward: "By being careful about *how* we present systems, we can guard against fatalistic interpretations and advance a constructive understanding of systems as under the control of people and therefore able and open to change."

Donors do their research. In "The Missing Middle Part 4" - another study published by Sea Change Strategies and Edge Research, it was noted that 78% of midlevel donors research an organization before giving, and 39% of them go to the organization's website to learn more. For many organizations, midlevel donors represent 1-2% of the total donors and 25-30% of the total revenue. Knowing this, and also understanding that total wallet share will remain a challenge to retain as the number of nonprofit organizations continues to grow, ensuring donors are able to easily access critical information when they arrive at an organization's website is key. Including relevant validations like charity ratings, testimonials and other information about how money is spent can be helpful additions to enhance trust that facilitates giving. In addition, systems testing to ensure the giving process is easy and 'frictionless' once the donor arrives (both on mobile and desktop) is another tactical strategy to enhance giving. Small changes can make a big difference.

As with any large-scale and meaningful transformation effort, proactivity is ultimately the most efficient, effective, and rewarding approach.
