Last week LitheSpeed and 🔑 Sanjiv Augustine 🎯 pulled together the Global Agility + Innovation conference. It was a great program with a diversity of writers, researchers, and storytellers sharing perspectives on how we might expect the art and science of program management to change and accelerate with the use of AI. If you didn't make it this year, it's definitely something I'd put on the calendar for next year. It was really a privilege to hear Nevine White speak about a topic that's near and dear to my heart - agile resourcing. She told a story about how a previous employer completely banished budgets while maintaining high levels of growth, fiscal discipline, and something like $1.6Bn in revenue. She told a story about how financial experts, integrated into frontline teams were able to support a basic guidance of "Do better than last quarter" Finance and agility aren't usually two words you hear together. The reality is that when we talk about "shifting left" there's no further left than planning and resourcing. It is the most abstract concept of time and labor. Want to go fast and have great results at the same time? Get rid of your budgets. Integrate financial discussions into the daily business. Get your financial experts out to the field and integrated into the teams where those plans are turned into action. Agility in finance is definitely the next plateau. So glad there are leaders who have been building lessons along the way for us to learn from.

Our Chief Delivery Officer Jodi Leo recently spoke at #GovernmentDX about building government websites with with no wrong door that serve a the single source of truth (especially when describing benefits for vulnerable populations), as well as creating services that are accessible to all. On helping people find accurate information with minimal effort, Jodi shared three key recommendations: 1. Have one website (and URL) as a single source of truth and sunset your microsites. 2. Prioritize and structure your site content based on user needs and wayfinding patterns. 3. Tap rich sources of insight within your organization to help you continue to optimize your content for all users—such as asking your call-center representatives about people’s common questions and points of confusion. On #accessibility, Jodi recommended getting to the baseline 508 requirements provided by fellow panelists, Judy Brewer and Andrew Nielson, by using automated accessibility testing tools like Google Lighthouse and Color Oracle, as well as doing #userResearch with people that have a range of abilities to learn more details about meeting specific needs.

This long weekend, I spend time to read two similar government report . One for "Three Mile island" and the other is "Fukushima". Though the style of these 2 reports are different, the narrative is pretty much the same. It is a systemic and organizational confirmation bias. As long as the plant works "OK", the potential exponential risk won't be questioned nor discussed. The governance structure, which supposed to articulate and expose the potential problem and address them preemptively, did work in reverse, in favor of keeping the current operation. The mantra is not to "rock the boat". The two reports are produced 30 years apart. (and in between, there's Chernobyl) It is surprising to see how these lessens are NOT learned. History gave us a good insight as to how we should be acting for the future, and by learning and taking advantage of these historical lessons, we can be better.
